Gulfstream Intl Airlines Is Now Silver Airways

which is why I am not worried about flying the Dash 8, even the Q200 is well over 24000lbs; oh but its not a jet, I don't think it matters when you know people and are constantly trying to meet people

It seems to me that you're just having a really hard time letting go of your GIA hate, even though the facts indicate that you should. No more PFT, no more scab management, and a good contract for that type of carrier. There is no legitimate reason to bear any ill will towards this company anymore. Look at it objectively, Dough. Your attitude about it just isn't making sense.

This is like opening up a Gojets thread again... Doug, I think the company has changed for the better, just like GJ, but that doesn't change the stigma or the picture that people have in their minds of a particular airline. (Forest Gump voice) And thats all I've got to say 'bout that.

So, if I'm understanding you right, you basically want the new management to acknowledge and apologize for the bad business practices of the old management? That's what you're looking for?

I would further say that if you are going to never allow a company to evolve and you will hold them responsible, even after they've changed and the previous management is done, then you should probably:

1) Never buy a German automobile - BMW, Daimler, VW, etc. These companies all took part in the Nazi war machine and used slave labor from the concentration camps. The family that controlled BMW recently admitted to using slave labor. Doug is a big proponent in this thread of not letting Gulfstream's past be lived down...perhaps typing out his responses as he sits in traffic in his BMW. Color me confused. I'm expecting him to get a Grand Marquis or Town Car to atone.

2) Do you enjoy your Hugo Boss suits? They were stylin in the 30's and 40's as well! Because they used slave labor to make Hitler youth and SS uniforms! So, if you don't think Gulfstream can reform....and you are wearing a Hugo Boss suit in your BMW...well, you should light yourself on fire.

3) Got a headache? You shouldn't take Bayer aspirin. Because Bayer was a division of I.G. Farben - they made the Zyklon B gas that was used in the gas chambers.

4) Kawasaki, Mitsubishi, and Hitachi all used American POW slave labor. PLEASE AVOID because a company can never change. If they could come and enslave you now, they would.

I'm WacoFan. I'm running for President and I approve this message.

Thank you for your support.

What an absurd comparison. I can't be arsed to delve in and try to figure out just how much GIA has changed. We're being asked to assume that because the window-dressing has changed, the fundamental nature of the company has also. That's not a gamble that I would want to take, particularly not with my employment.

Also, surely whatever mild improvements have been achieved are due to the UNION rather than the goodness of the investors hearts? Right, ATN? Waco?

I know Waco is just dithering away his time in theoretical pursuits, but I'm genuinely puzzled that ATN defends a company that he himself says engaged in totally unethical business practices and victimized both him directly and the rest of us by extention. Stockholm Syndrome?

Whatever the case, my credulity isn't bought for nothing. The whole point of branding is establishing a reputation. Now you expect me to just "give it a Mulligan" because someone changed the sign? Not bloody likely, friend. They can earn it, but that's going to take some...time.

Does CAL still have the taint of Lorenzo even though he's gone? I mean, the SCABS - the ones who made his plan work - are still there in large numbers. Should the airline still be ostracized? I get what you're saying boris - but there are new owners - they didn't commit the crimes against humanity that the previous ones did. They seem to have changed their employment model. I'm not saying the old GIA wasn't horrible - but I would allow the new people a chance. It would seem that it would be positive for the industry - the old GIA owners that did the PFT are out, new owners with a better contract and no PFT are in - that is improvement isn't it?

There's a significant difference between 30 years ago and 30 minutes ago. The answer, I suppose, is somewhere in between.

No improvement can happen unless, at some point in the process, the change was "30 minutes ago". I fail to see how withholding support for a positive change until some undetermined amount of time passes will in any way help the industry. The flip side is that by withholding the support you make it more difficult for the new owners - that did away with the sins of the past - to succeed, leaving an after-taste of "We tried to change for the better and it didn't work...so going forward we won't try to change for the better".

I guess many would rather continue to focus on the past of GIA instead of the present and the future of Silver Airways. It is fair to judge with the past but we also have to give a chance to Silver Airways to prove that they are moving in the right direction from here on. Here's how I see it, let's say you are to start a gas station business and you find one that is for sale because the owners are bankrupt. You decide to buy it and give it a new name and of course manage it yourself. You also get rid of some of the old employees and hire some new ones with the experience and the core beliefs you like. But, there are some problematic issues. The previous owners ripped off customers by charging their credit cards more than they purchased. They had horrible customer service practices and the gas pumps were even fixed to charge you for more gas than you got. Obviously, these illegal practices led to their downfall. Now you the new owner need to overcome all of this and regain the trust from the customers in the area that this is a new business and things are now different. People will continue to judge the place with the past. Some will never shop there again. Is it fair to you? Well, you bought it, you own it! Everything that comes with it. You can only hope that with time you would regain the trust and your business is profitable.

We seem to be talking past one another. I see no evidence that there even are new owners. Someone said so on the internet. And I'm not going to go rooting around in business journals or SEC filings to figure it out. Because I'm extremely unlikely to want or need a job with GIA, so I will maintain my prejudices. What possible good will my "support" do them anyway? If I were a young pilot looking at whatever they're called this week for employment, I would investigate. Rather thoroughly.

Mostly I was just looking for a way to incite people who wear Hugo Boss suits and drive expensive German cars to self-immolation....and not because of the Nazi stuff, just because many who fit that combination are only suited (pun) for self-immolation. And, I invoked Godwin's Law in a thread about GIA. So I win.

Are they going to raise their captain pay? GIA year 2 CA pay = year 2 FO pay at other regionals

Is there anyone currently on these boards who works there and can comment more on they're specific work rules? They are represented by the Teamsters according to APC...

I'm a regular line joe.

The only tie I wear, apart from my Christmas tie (Holiday tie, I'll call it, just to make Republicans angry) is clip-on and only at work. I haven't spent any time in Herndon, did not work for the airline and I'm afraid all I've seen.... well, whenever it piqued my normally jaded interest, is new paint and new aircraft with no acknowledgement or mention of the abortion their previous business model represented.

Now I've called my Christmas tie a "holiday tie", used the word "abortion" and I should be getting a flurry of angry private messages "Convos" from my more conservative friends in 3.....2......1.....

Doug is just mad because we got a really cool cartoon show....

And a cowboy that says our handle.

Boy, I would hate to be a small, regional airlines based in Cincinnati that pissed him off, oh wait.....
LOL

That's my issue. Just because a company is under new management doesn't wipe away its past. Just like your reputation, it follows you. To me it would be better if the company sold all their aircraft then started a new company with new practices, pay and location. Get a fresh start, start a new high school, so to speak.

I wonder, when you start dating a new girl, do you treat her like crap because the last one treated you like crap? If so, how well do you think that relationship is going to work? Same principle applies here. Give them a chance before you render an opinion.

Solid advice, however, at what point do you turn into Charlie Brown punting Lucy's football? Never?

Only time will tell what vision the new owners really have for the airline. I'll give them a chance though.

Also, I'm not dating them and don't intend to. Let's say some chick is a psycho bunny-boiler but finds Jebus and says she's totally different now and that you should impregnate her and get married. Whaddya do?
