Any Stay At Home Dads

Just wondering - I work on weekends, so Mon-Fri I am a stay at home dad. Love it but running out of ideas of what to do with baby who is 8 months.
 
At 8 months they're really not going to absorb a lot from "doing stuff". The best thing for them at that age is a good amount of face-to-face time with the parents, and book reading. They love the sound of your voice and the bright pictures in the books. They like 'tactile' things at that age, my boys both loved their "Peek A Blocks", from Fisher-Price. (Stacking blocks with stuff inside them and some sets had different textures on the outside, not sure if they're still made anymore.)

As they get older and into the toddler stage is when they'll enjoy more "doing stuff". Introducing craft time, visits to petting zoos and your local children's museum, etc.

Im in the same boat as you with working on weekends and staying at home on the weekdays. Only difference is that my kid is only 8 weeks old, so all I'm good for is feeding and changing diapers.
 
Take your baby everywhere you would normally go and enjoy his/her company :-) you have a fantastic situation so take advantage of every minute, even the frustrating/tiring minutes. You don't have to do activities or anything special. All of the routine exposure is entertaining.

Especially when at the grocery store and they are screaming because they want a big boob, which you cant offer, and their crap was so big and runny it has totally been absorbed by the onesie. Man I get soooo much attention from chicks when I have my baby out in public.
 
I am a SAHD 3 days a week, I love it. My boy is 16 months now, been doing this since he was born! Like someone else said, just be there, have floor time, give baths and enjoy it while you can. I also have teenagers...13 and 16....

At 8 months my lil guy loved interactive toys like the one where you try and figure out what shapes to put inwhat holes, he also liked it when I would play guitar for him, or just have him sit on my lap and watch a tv show. He loved Food Network! Now he's learning to walk and stuff, so we hit the park every day. He actually likes being chuaffered in his stroller best!
 
I do the daddy daycare thing once or twice a week. My wife is an ER nurse and only works days I am off. I also find it hard to find things to keep my son and myself occupied. Thankfully he is napping right now as I type this.

Results may vary depending on multiple factors, lol. A father with a baby girl all done up in pinks/purples gets the women every time.
 
Is it ironic that the acronym for Stay at home Dad, SAHD, sounds like sad when spoken aloud? :sarcasm:

In all seriousness, I actually looked forward to the opportunity to stay at home with my daughter...but since I'm just an office peon, never got the chance...If you are a stay at home dad, relish the opportunity...I wish I would have had the chance. Now my daughter is 2 and just assumes Daddy lives in his car, cause that's the only place she sees me come and go.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I know exactly what you mean! Thanks be to God that it gets solid after a while. That liquid crap is like tar...
 
I wish I could be a SAHM (at least for awhile), but don't think it will happen. Even if we could afford it I wouldn't take the chance of loosing the position I have now. Reading is always good and singing songs. I'll probably take the baby to the zoo when (s)he gets older and get a pass to at least one of the parks around here.

This is very true. Although today we were at the beach on a daddy daughter date. I felt naked most of the time to those ravenous women.
