AFROTC

Just wondering if anyone could answer my question about AFROTC. My goal has always been a pilot, but because I have a son I cannot attend the AF Academy. So I contacted the AFROTC detachment at the university I will be attending and was told I was not eligible to join because I am a single parent. Am I not entitled to complete a family care plan or a dependent care plan? This is straight from the AFROTC website, "If you are single with a dependent or married to a military member with dependent, a dependent care plan must be completed. A dependent is defined as anyone incapable of self-care, e.g., child, parent, etc." Why would I be ineligible? Also, if my spouse and I get married, will I then be eligible to join?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also I have a 3.7 GPA and I will be transferring to start my junior year at the university studying mathematics.

It seem's like I should be eligible for AFROTC. So far I've found that I need to complete AF Form 357, which is a family care certification. And possibly also an Air Force dependency policy.

Here's some help: Go look up the regulation that governs AFROTC entry, print it out, and bring it with you when you recontact your local ROTC detachment (hint: AFI 36-2011, paragraph 4). If you're going to be any good in my Air Force, you need to figure out how to look up regs so that you can get beyond the "no-sayers" to accomplish your goals.

Here's how this conversation should go: "Sir, I want to be an AFROTC cadet so that I may become an officer in the Air Force. I am a single parent, but AFI 36-2011 does not mention dependent status in the 'Who may not be AFROTC members section.' I know I'll need it at some point, so I brought in my filled-out AF Form 357. Essentially, I'll be using my parents to take care of my child in the event of my deployment. Please tell me what I should do next to become a cadet. Thank you for your time, sir."

Im prior, you cant be single parent in the AF, marry someone and you'll be good again. They also dont have to live with you.

Dude you sound like you either are, or have been crushed repeatedly by the shoe clerk force. However, that statement is sad but true. Reference my squadron earlier today digging through regs to find a way out after an IG inspector laid into a bro for having a "mach tuck" in his cover.

That IG inspector needs to be killed and his worthless body dumped on the western side of North TAC.

And we wonder why the AF is the complete laughing stock of the DOD services.

Wow, that is out of control. At least he had a cover. I diverted alone into yuma one time without one (doesn't fit under the gsuit), and had to borrow the LCPL's cover at base ops to run a few blocks for some food. My plan was to jump into some bushes if I crossed paths with anyone important looking. Sadly there are no bushes in Yuma, so luckily I didn't have to resort to plan B

Plan B: Attach sticky silver stars ( like the ones from grade school) and act like you own the town?

How the heck tight is your G-suit anyway? Mine was always somewhat loose......of course, in the Hog that didn't really matter. I always folded mine in half and put it in the g-suit ankle pocket and zipped it closed, thus alleviating the problem. If that doesn't work, then toss it into your helmet bag....pending you take that with you. Always have your hat and wallet.

I guess I could carry it in my helmet bag, though I try to cut down on random stuff that could fod the cockpit, or otherwise annoy me while I'm trying to reach for things. As for the speed jeans, I keep em tight for the ladies......

I always carry my phone in the zipper pocket, and some cash if I'm flying in the 01W lest I go down in Mexico.....my grandpa talked his way out of a confrontation with Pancho Villas posse down there with cash after he crashed when flying some old airplane in the 1920's while doing money courier flying for Texaco. I figure if it worked for him, maybe it would for me too....they even gave him and his gold a ride back to the airport :) Then again he was a serious BSer and spoke fluent spanish so maybe that was the bigger thing

Just toss it in your helmet bag and zip it closed then. There shouldn't be much of anything you need from the bag inflight.

Would probably work. Your hat will fit in there too, or in the other pocket on the other ankle. If we caveman-type attack guys can do it, then you pointy-nose Hollywood fighter guys should be able to also. :)

Your hat will fit fine in your leg pocket with the G suit over the top of it. Just make sure the metal rank is poking up above the g-suit cuff, else it will hurt like a mofo when it inflates.

Sounds like he has his G suit tight as hell on him, as he describes it. :)

Maybe that is what I'm missing....I always do rank/insignia side down for the gravity assist when I'm walking around with it in there. I do have a horrible dirty pisscutter that could certainly stand in flight backup duty....

Just curious, doesn't spouse imply you are married? As for your course of action, I would either A: proceed as hook_dupin said. Just google AF epubs to help find the document. Or B: get married, problem solved. Either way best of luck.

Just in case anyone needs updated information, AFROTC does not recognize a common-law spouse as a married spouse. Single parents cannot join AFROTC, but a married parent is eligible; according to AFI 36-2002.

With the repeal of DADT, is gay marriage now recognized by the military too?
