Similar US/Soviet (Russian) aircraft

So the topics of the FB-111 and SU-24 got me to thinking...what aircraft have the Soviets/Russians developed in response to a US aircraft and visa versa.

I've always thought the Buran was a better design than the shuttle. No external tank or SRBs, the Buran orbiter itself was unpowered. Basically just the orbiter strapped to a huge Energiya booster.

Piece for piece copy of the B-29. When it comes to copied aircraft, it doesn't get any worse than this. They literally stole a few that diverted into Russia, dis-assembled them, and converted the measurements into metric to re-produce them.

Yeah, the whole computer issue hung them up though. Only enough memory in the computers to run 2 orbits. In any case, they made the smart decision to stick with the R7.

You have to enjoy the mental image of all these Russian engineers bent over slide rules trying to make sure all the crap worked because the stupid Americans stuck with the Imperial system, though. Best argument I've ever seen for staying away from the evil Metric system. I'd wager one or two of them shot themselves in the head due to the sheer horrible drudgery of it all.
