$4000/month to live full time in West Africa is "good pay"? Heh.

Lol. That's what I was gonna say. Are they drunk? Also, I see FO positions paying 4k/month in Afghanistan as well.
You guys been to West Africa lately? 4K a month will have you living like a king, considering you get housing paid for, and 50 to 100 bucks a day per diem. That's at a minimum another $1500.

All that said, we're talking West Africa. I've lived there before, and there's a reason why I may go there with Delta, but that I'm happy to leave 3-4 days later.

As you point out, it might be great pay if you want to stay. But it's not going to send little Johnny to East Arkansas State Vocational, let alone Yale.

Did you do the math? Thats only about $65k a year. Hardly good pay for flying something like that. And re-location to Africa to boot?

You're missing the point. That pay sucks if you want to live in an industrial western nation. For Africa, it's a fortune. You're thinking like an American who wants an American standard of living.

They must mean $4000/week.

I know people who have taken similar jobs in the middle east and China and they do it to save at least a six figure amount per year only to return home after 2-5 years, not to make 65k.

This is what I am getting at. It's REAL cheap to live in China. And there are jobs in China that pay very well. There are also jobs in India, where you can live real cheap that pay well into six figures. If it's $4k a week, thats dang good. If it's $4k a month, not so much.

Just so you know they also pay for you're tickets back and forth between the USA and West Africa. 2 months paid vacation a year is quite a bit in my opinion.

2 months paid vacation is pretty good and really does play a huge factor into the equation. So, what, about 65K for working 10 months with cheap living and free housing? Doesn't sound too bad to me. I can't do it, I don't have any 727 time plus I'm stuck in the midwest with a wife and kids. But for the right person with 727 time and no job, it could be pretty ok.

Now everyone else, quit yapping about how much the pay sucks! You might be right, BUT...I've seen it before, someone posts a job, tons of people bitch about it, and then the person who posted the job never posts one again. Who knows, the next job they post might be one that you're interested in with great pay.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. (Unless you've worked there, and it REALLY REALLY sucks, and you want to warn people for their own safety or whatever.)

Thanks for posting, 3enginejock.

We have some flight attendants that commute from Ghana. -- $4k/month and you're almost living like a Central American drug lord.

Thanks for posting the opportunity. It sounds adventurous for someone that matches the qualifications.

I don't think it's out of line to suggest that someone deployed for 5/6ths of the year to one of the (forgive me native west-Africans) least developed areas on the planet who has at least 1000 hours on a transport-category jet might expect to make more than I do for flying a turboprop 250 hours a year, picking up a couple of contract trips here and there, and sleeping warm in my own bed 99% of the time. And I don't think 3enginejock (or most people) is/are so thin-skinned that they'd stop posting jobs just because some interwebz yahoo had something unpleasant to say about them (meaning the job).

With that said, to be clear, it's always good for jobs to be posted, whatever I or anyone else might have to say about the T&Cs. Thanks for taking the time, 3engine. :)

Nobody would have said a word about the pay if the original post did not read "good pay" followed by not 1, not 2, but 3 exclamation points. I really appreciate fellow JC'ers looking out for the community by giving a reality check on a pilot's deserved respect in terms of compensation when it is deceptively described as "good!!!".

True, true.
