56 chautauqua furloughs - RAH parking 135/145's

f. Silly things like "gear down" flights with passengers onboard when there are hydraulic MEL's

I did that today!

Woke up at 4am in SBN. Found out the gear was MELed down because the nose gear didn't want to retract last night. Part of the MEL was you cant operate in icing conditions, which existed below our MEA to ORD. Waited till we could head on over the lake at 4,000ft, which was 8 hours later with one passenger on board. Landed, sent the plane to the hangar. Sat around for a long time and then timed out.

Winning.

These are ERJs currently being flown as Frontier Express.

They have now offered voluntary furloughs. Its my guess that many people will take them up on it. There are many who are sitting on job offers, (not me), are debating overseas quick pay days, or are ready for a break from this circus.

The management has decided to pass their miscalculations onto others. They want to blame the IBT for their lawsuit, and not themselves for running a mismanaged operation with 8 different paintschemes..... Newhires, who have given up other jobs, go to class in good faith, only to be sent home the same week? THey have been successful in creating a culture where every pilot(save maybe a few in IND) would go out of their way to piss in managements cereal everyday.

Yeah, my buddy is in indoc for RP right now.. They gave the official word today. They will put them through the type rating and then immediate furlough.

On the somewhat bright side, they get a type rating at least?

It was, because the completion factor was not affected.

Not gonna make A+14?

A15 is the same as A+8 hours.

Sad.

I was once proud that I worked at CHQ, now I can't wait to leave. I can't believe how quickly it went from being a good place to work to such an awful place to work. God Bless.:insane:

I don't know if it's particularly morally bankrupt but the old adage about "the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing" applies to the airline business.

Very VERY roughly:
Marketing creates the routes
Flight Operations figures out how many planes and pilots they need.
HR gets the figure from Flight Ops and begs for more pilots, if needed.

By the time they say, "OK! We need more bodies, go ahead and hire" and they get Flight Ops up to speed, Marketing may have changed their plans and there's still some inertia in the flow of pilots.

I know SouthernJets is waiting for marketing's 2012 summer plan to determine what type of advance entitlement they want to run in October 2011.

This has nothing to do with staffing needs and everything to do with punishing the Teamsters and doing some union-busting hostage taking during negotiations.

They're claiming the loss of six planes requires 56 furloughs on top of the new hires dismissed today. Problem is, the most Jr pilots are ALL Shuttle America, where we're the most understaffed because of the new deal with DAL. So Chautauqua loses planes and we cut staff at S5, where we're already understaffed, and we're not allowing any transfers.

Total BS move by management to lash out at Teamsters for the lawsuit. Treating human lives like pawns in a game.

Anyone reading this, NEVER come here. This is the worst run company in America!

Think I'll stick with freight for a few more years. Sorry to all the furloughs.

Don't get me started on bean counters and aviation.

They're the reason for:

a. Leo Mullin (Billion dollar CEO who couldn't lead his way out of a telephone booth)
b. The 737 still being around after what, 300 years?
c. Priceline.com
d. Bag fees
e. Ridiculous rest rules
f. Silly things like "gear down" flights with passengers onboard when there are hydraulic MEL's
g. Justin Beiber. Yeah, I said it.
h. MD88/90 Cabin reconfiguration (been on the ER too long, eh?)

Strike? Mass resignation?

That sucks, I hope a friend of mine who is a recent hire there will be ok. Are they closing the MKE hub and just doing away with the old Midwest flying? I always figured flying an E135 from SDF-MKE that leaves at 11pm and gets in around midnight so no one can connect was silly. From what I've heard from people there, it just didn't seem like they had that MKE operation set up well for connections, you can't just depend on local traffic in that region. And yet, its the crews who suffer.

Anybody have a link with the number and sides the furloughs were on?

I don't understand these companies. I honestly think that we as pilots need to band together and boycott even working for these companies that are notorious for such atrocious business practices, but that's just me.

Good luck with that. There will ALWAYS be a pilot (many, actually) willing to undercut another to get into the industry and work for less. Damn near to working for free.

Pilots are indeed their own worst enemies.
