TSA Awesomeness

^ Well said, but anyone smart enough to assemble those paragraphs should be equally smart enough to know that there is no scientific correlation between skin color and behavior. To claim otherwise is nothing less than a fallacy. I get what you're alluding to, but I can't see the value in continuing to associate skin color with what is in reality a cultural phenomenon. I know some trashy, destructive segments of every ethnicity and I think there are larger issues behind why certain groups are perpetually stuck with low social equity. But skin color specifically is not a determining factor.

Don't get him started...
That girl in the Airport pharmacy sure had a way with brooms, didn't she? Too bad you left the ramp to go fly shiny jet airplanes, Airserv started hiring Filipina chicks that are under 40 now to push wheelchairs. Now when ops gives the leads 10 out calls and says there will be wheelchairs, the read backs are usually something like "Ok Tuscon is 10 out, copy the lav, and Chasen, did you copy 2 wheelchairs?". Goodtimes.

Oh, and I'm going to BKK at the end of the month. Thank you for the advice you gave me in Catalina.

Flew out of Orlando Sanford today(passenger) with allegiant and right as im boarding the plane theres this black guy yelling back and forth with the TSA agent seriously on the top of their lungs.

Black guy: Your only searching me cause i'm black
TSA agent: Don't pull that racist junk with me

TSA agent=1
Black guy=0

That's no more absurd than someone screaming about their darling 10 year old going through the it'll-make-your-head-explode-because-Elizabeth-Hasselbeck-said-it-on-The-View scanners at the airport either.

It's a checkpoint, folks. Shut your trap, scan efficiently, problem solved. Orrrr shut the hell up and just drive.

The demographics at my (large southern CA) college:

African American 2%
Asian 44%
Mexican American 10%
Filipino 4%
Latino/Other Spanish 3%
Native American 0%
Caucasian 26%
Other/Undeclared 10%

Doesn't bother me at all. It was a total cultural backhand to the face coming here from my rich affluent white hometown, and I loved every bit of it. I think Chasen would approve of the female demographic...

People shouldn't play the race card or complain that the minorities are comin' to take err jobbbz. Sheesh!

Review the bolded texts. One of these is not like the others.

One is a PC way to describe someone's skin color, the other describes the heritage of the person.

Either that or I completely missed that Doug is a first generation American from Africa. Weird.

I'm putting my political science hat on for a minute. Why does whitey fear people of color? Because historically, the more "white" your community was, the more affluent it was. Now there's certainly a bit of racism mixed in there, but some might argue it's a response to a relatively functional psychological defense mechanism. There is a direct statistical correlation between %Caucasian and a community's median home value. Majority-minority neighborhoods have a strong statistical tendency to be in lower socioeconomic areas. So when a white individual sees minority encroachment in their neighborhood, they associate it with a respective decrease in their property values and overall quality of life. If minority encroachment is feared, it's perhaps not for something inherently wrong about minority individuals themselves, but rather the fear that the white person's quality of life was at risk.

The best example of this is the cyclical nature of urban sprawl over the last 60 or so years. As minority ranks grew in the inner cities, Whites "sprawled" into the suburbs and pushed further out. The people who left were also those with the greatest financial resources (allowing them to pick up and leave). Those remaining were, by their inability to leave, inherently less well off. But eventually lower SES groups pushed outward as well, driving the affluent further and further out. Eventually, in the 2000s, we began to see sprawl turn inward, with affluent citizens moving back into the central cities that had largely been abandoned. Many would speculate that this is a cyclical pattern that will continue for some time (in my theory, until most work becomes entirely remote, and people can live wherever they want).

By way of self-fulfilling prophecy, white communities have often purposely resisted apparent minority encroachment as a way to maintain their QOL and property values. No reasonable person would think that a Black or Hispanic family moving in next door will have a direct, negative impact on the community. But there is a statistical precedence for feeling that a community "becoming" Hispanic or Black is a sign of negative growth. So, is it wrong for a White American to resist racial integration in their community? I would say so. Is it irrational? That's a tougher question. I mean how do you argue with a phenomena that is driven by statistical data that is accurate, if not misunderstood.

Forgive me if I myself come off a bit racist - I haven't eaten, but I did just drink a Duvel.

Good post, good points of thought. The black houses in my neighborhood are all declining, but so are quite a few white ones. Trash is trash.
