whats the deal with xjt?

so after all this gojets, delta and asa hooplah about the 700s, someone told me that xjt has something going on with 30 of their airplanes. Can anyone throw some facts out there?

In the ExpressJet operation, we have 16 EMB145 aircraft with contracts that were scheduled to expire in April 2011, but we were able to extend those to Aug. 31, 2011. This past week we were again able to extend those aircraft to April 2012. The challenge with this new contract expiration date is that we also have EMB145s that ExpressJet placed with United two years ago that will also be expiring in April 2012. We will have to work hard to hang on to these aircraft. There is no question that we can make this happen if we continue working together to become cost competitive and produce operational results that are in line with our own standards, and acceptable to our partners.

Yea he painted a pretty gloomy outlook on that update. I always try to stay positive but I don't see much future for the combined Acey. At this point I'd rather be furloughed and go somewhere else then be bumped back to reserve

How is he planning on you guys becoming cost competitive? Wage cuts? Concessionary joint contract? Cutting staff?

Yup...

I've done both. Furlough/Recall and started over again another regional. I'll let you figure out which one sucks more.

Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but as an outsider looking in now, that last sentence screams to me "be prepared to sacrifice more, even though you are currently getting a screw job." From what I've heard from friends still at XJT, it's going to really damage the operation to try and cut costs any more than they have already.

You never know in this business. I was two numbers from getting furloughed from OH back in 2009, to holding a line 6 months later, to getting furloughed once more in 2011. Moving on and I still don't know what my future holds. Good luck to ya.

Weren't you close to the last furlough in 2009? Think back to how grateful you were then that you weren't furloughed. So I have a question; Why wait for a furlough? if you feel the future is so dark why is it worth sticking around? Nobody's making you stay...
