Finding a new job, Help needed

Hey guys! New here on this forum, but a long running veteran on both APC and PPRUNE for those that are also members.

Writing to ask for help, as I'm kind of at a loss in regards to where I go from here.

My background:
- Did my education in Florida. Got my CPL and CFI/CFII/MEI certificates
- Worked as a flight instructor for a tad more than a year, and got about 800h TT before i left for home.
- ATPL theory + JAA CPL/ME/IR in Norway + MCC

Then, nothing. I've been applying all over the world, and I'm not picky. At this stage I will jump on almost anything, as long as I at least get paid and can live without being afraid of my life (p2f is not for me).
Willing to buy a FAA type rating with a genuine job offer, but not really into gambling on doing the type rating before the offer is presented.

Lately I've been looking into flight instructor gigs in Asia, as I don't have a JAA FI rating. Would gladly take a job as a flight instructor again in Malaysia, Thailand or any other Asian country.


Any tips, ideas or knowledge you guys could provide me with? I would be extremely grateful for any help you could provide :).

Hello, and welcome to the forums. I know you've probably heard it on the other sites also, but unfortunately you are low time, from what I have gathered in your post. I'm not saying you will not find anything, but I am saying you are going to get the crap sandwich that goes with low times. I would highly recommend not going and blowing a bunch of money on a type rating. Most companies will take advantage of you, and when recurrent is due, they will tell you you need to pay for it, since you already paid for the type. I've seen it happen personally to a co pilot of mine in Kiev.

Have you tried getting a job in Norway to build your time? Go knock on doors. If I don't know somebody, and they approach me personally about a job I did not put out there, then chances are I am not going to do much for them, other than send a resume in, if even that, with a note stating I do not know who this person is. Go out and meet people, other than posting on "anonymous" web sites. Put the effort in to get to know people. Trust me, this is how I have received all of my overseas jobs, was either by word of mouth, or who I knew.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance, but I wish you the best of luck in your search. My suggestion is go meet people face to face, get your name out there, and build your time doing low time jobs. I know there are CFI's on here who have went to China, Saudi Arabia, and other places to build experience, and have a good foundation for their experience.

I agree with Stone Cold that to know people increases the possibility to get a job, but sometimes I feel that it might be not enough.
How can you convince a chief pilot or HR guy that they should hire you because you have more airline experience than their minimum 500h but 0h on the TR they ask for?
After checking for one year jobs available in EU, Africa, Asia,...not USA because I hold a JAA licence, I have realised that unless you have previous experience on the airplane they fly, the possibility to work with them is close to 0%. I have already 1600h jet time not JAR with MD, but as my last flight was more than 12 months ago,the possibilities to reach a cockpit again are minimal. Its not all about having experience, there a lot more extra details to fulfil and at the moment I havent succeed to have them all. But I am still optimistic, and my plan is to nock doors again, since BA and other carriers from middle east are willing to hire pilots, I expect to get in those empty seats,by those moving abroad and leaving their former employer, before the cadet programs p2f ruins completely the flight industry.

Currently working for a Caravan operator in SE Asia. Still looking for a job back home in Europe that I can go back to eventually though, but as of now I'm enjoying where I am =)

I know which company you are working for. :)
 
You could check susi air in indonesia. They fly caravans and i think have pretty high turnover. You start in the right seat and move to the left prob pretty quick. The pay is crap but i think you fly a bunch, so most guys just use it to build time.
