The THUD

Many of these FAA employees are on a yearly salary. When this is all done they will be getting back pay. Such a waste.

WASHINGTON (CNNMoney) -- Some 4,000 furloughed aviation workers are the latest casualty of political infighting in Washington.
Families used to making $75,000 a year are filing for unemployment benefits and worrying how to make mortgage, car and student loan payments, furloughed workers say.

Senate goes on recess without taking up FAA funding

Washington (CNN) -- The U.S. Senate went on summer recess Tuesday night without taking action to fully fund the Federal Aviation Administration, all but assuring that almost 4,000 furloughed FAA workers will remain jobless for the next five weeks, and preventing the agency from collecting $1.2 billion in aviation taxes.

I can't believe congress gets to go on vacation for a freaking month. While thousands of people are laid off and wondering when they will get another paycheck

All this at a time when we are supposed to be putting people back to work, the people who have to power to prevent it from getting worse go on freakin vacation.

Incorrect. Almost each and every one of these employees is on an hourly wage. It would take an act of Congress to pay them for work not done. Senator Jay Rockefeller has introduced just such a proposal in the Senate, but there is no corresponding bill in the House. And with John Mica intentionally causing this mess, there's very little chance the House will pass such legislation.

These people are going to go over a month trying to support families, pay mortgages, and cover the upcoming college semester tuitions, and that's a travesty.

This is why everyone should have an emergency fund of at least 6-8 months...."we the people in order to form a more perfect union..." ya right.

Not to mention the revenue taxes that airlines pay is not being collected, so a source of income for the govt was turned off.

So much for the promotion of aviation.

Congress needs to be furloughed without pay. And they wonder why they create angry citizens........

Sometimes I wonder why there isn't more lynch mobs.

Because lynch mobs only work on poor disenfrachised people, unless your mob is enormous and then it isn't called a mob but a revolution. These people have big burly men willing to shoot you to death protecting them.

Technically speaking, those big burly men should be supporting the Constitution of the United States and protecting same; not protecting Congressmen and politicians. Of course, reality might be different.

It's estimated that this shutdown will cost the Aviation Trust Fund approximately $1.2 billion by the time Congress gets back on September 7. At a minimum, John Mica should be pulled as Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, because every minute he remains in charge of that committee puts a lie to the notion that Republicans are being "fiscally responsible."

Embry-Riddle's Congressman.

Another freakin bandaid! Enough with the short trem extensions already. Yes, I am glad that they went back to work. But this is the 21st short term extension of what needs a real fix. This was a "calm the masses so we can continue our vacation" deal.
