Shutdown of FAA possible in House, Senate clash

I voted for Nader, I hate everyone!

I don't think jtrain is trying to kill all of GA, but he's probably hoping that it will drive out the weekend warriors who really shouldn't be flying. You know, the ones who have to call a phone number every time they land at a controlled airport?

Bingo.

But killing general aviation sounds better :)

Pssst...

FAA has furloughed 4000 people. jtrain, I hear they will be looking for general aviation user fee collectors. Pay will probably exceed a lib lawyers paycheck by a few digits. ;)

Lol, John is just messing with you people. Quite funny, actually.

I do also find it ironic that at least one "government is evil, privatization is good" person posted in this thread clearly against user fees.

The irony that Canada and those horrible socialist countries in Europe have a privatized system is not lost upon me.

I think we should privatize roads and infrastructure too. No more gas taxes!

Now THIS, is a problem, and I certainly hope that all these folks have their jobs back soon. Losing your job sucks, especially when you have no idea when it's going to come back.

Didn't fly in the military.

I'm done flying GA. If it doesn't have a pair of turbine engines, TCAS and GPWS, I'm not interested anymore.

Oh I see how it is....It got you where you are (I mean how else could you have gotten your hours..), so you no longer care just because you never care to fly a bugsmasher again. We can talk about the borderline incoherent geezers who fly around in Bonanzas on Saturday afternoons and probably agree, but I think you're overgeneralizing as if all GA pilots were like the Incoherent Bonanza geezers....What about flight instruction, corperate, aerial mapping, pipeline etc...these are all part 91 GA sectors of the aviation industry that would be adversely affected if we followed through with your ideas.

Corporate, aerial mapping and pipeline patrol would go nowhere, they all have the money to pay user fees. The FBO's that service them would go nowhere, because the number of flights done would not go down. MX facilities would continue to fix airplanes.

But flight instruction is already dead in this country, and has been for years. It will only get worse, and has little to do with possible future user fees. The costs of general aviation are out of reach for the majority of Americans for a majority of reasons, and quite frankly, if a person can't afford an additional $20 a flight, to pull a number out of my butt, they couldn't afford to fly GA in the first place.

Or said another way, the truly rich never lose their yachts.

I know of quite a few FBOs that would go out of business if user fees kept your run of the mill GA pilot away....Also the A&P at my field who does the annuals for 90% or more of the aircraft on the field would probably have to close up his shop too.

...or which dictatorship/ socialist country it's hiding in...

I am in the process of submitting continued arguments with liberals for kind consideration to be adopted in DSM-IV-TR Section 297.1, 301.22 as well as 319.

:insane:

WRONG. a LOT of small airports would close shop would have to close shop as their survival depends greatly on the community. Quite a few of those might have a small FedEx run that may be the life blood for small businesses in that town. I know airports like this exist, and there are a lot of them, as I have flown into many during building my time as an aerial survey pilot. That one FedEx run isn't going to save them if user fees get implemented. The airport would still close...these user fees are going to have a much farther effect on the country than just aviation.

That aside, there are so many great places accessible by small aircraft, why would we want to risk losing those? Aviation has always been associated with freedom, the possibility to go where only the birds went before. We've lost sight of that now, remember your roots man, and how you got started in this! Why would we want to associate fees with all this? Besides, you complain about TA's/ RA's now... imagine how fun it will be when rebellious GA pilots start taking to the skies with transponders off, not that you need to have one in some places..

Re: Partial FAA Shutdown at midnight, today (7/22/2011)

Sure they are. I'm just saying that users of the system should pay for the services they use rather than having the airlines and our passengers pick up pretty much the entire bill all in the name of keeping GA accessible. That's not right.

The fuel tax seems to accomplish this properly already. If you fly more you pay more. Which aircraft use ATC services more GA or Airlines? Airlines do, and airlines pay more because their aircraft use more fuel. Seems fair to me. The fuel tax is transparent, it doesn't require additional bureaucratic staff to keep track of all the billing. Think of how ridiculous it will be. Fly an ILS receive a bill for it 6 months later?? Who gets the bill? The registered owner? If its a flight school that won't work very well. What happens if you don't pay? Since when is anything the FAA does efficient or cost effective? User fees is a can of worms.

"Gee, it seems my Mode C might be off by a handful of feet to avoid paying a transit fee."
