Kalitta Air Flight Follower

Hi all,

This is my first post, glad to be here.

I've got a question about the Flight Follower position at Kalitta Air. I've applied to it like 5 times (now 6 this morning) over the past year and haven't got any calls. I meet all the requirements and live within 30 minutes of YIP. I really want to work there as well :p

What do I have to do to at least get an interview or call?

I'm not sure what it takes to penetrate the YIP vortex. I met one of their dispatchers a few months ago and was very, very impressed. Creme of the crop knowledge and experience wise.
 
It's been a long time ago, but I interviewed once with Kalitta and I was decidedly unimpressed. However, if you really want to work for them, you COULD try calling them directly to see if they got your resume...but in general, I've come to believe that there is often little logic to the hiring/interview process. Also, you don't want to bug the company too much or they'll definitely not be interested in you. Sometimes it works best to send your resume directly to the manager of the department you're interested in working for, if you know who is in charge of the department, thus bypassing the HR "screen." Anyhow best of luck with your dispatch career - and never forget, if one employer isn't calling you back, there are lots of other ones to choose from out there.
 
Thanks for the insight. I called HR and they sent it on, might call the guy in charge as well. Got to walk that fine line though; squeaky wheel gets the oil but it can also be replaced :)
 
If they were only hiring for one, I work with the guy who got it. Don't feel bad, though, his qualifications were pretty hard to beat.
 
I think they were hiring more than one. I found out why I'm now 0 for 6. Buried in requirements paragraph is a 121 dispatch certificate. I have mine but its frozen till I turn 23. Had a nice chat with the man in charge of FFs though, so hopefully that will lead to something in about a year.
 
Does this position require building releases at all? If so, I Just quickly browsed there website and they state they are a 121 scheduled operation..... If this is true you would have to be able to exercise the privileges of a certified dispatcher, and being under 23, you could not do that. But if they were supplemental or 135 I don't see what the big deal is then.

They are 121 domestic, flag, and supplemental. So the supplemental flights could be signed off by the SOC manager. However, many supplemental carriers (including the one I worked at) delegated that authority right back to the DXR. I'm not sure but I think the FFs compose the release or something as well, which in itself doesn't require you to be a DXR. Yet I think they either sign the release or have operational control when they are FFing.

Some other companies have similar positions where you compose the paperwork and a DXR signs it. He passed my resume along to Kalitta Charters (135 side) and said I should look at other positions right now. Hoping to get a call about the ride on load master :insane:
 
Some Supplementals, like Southern Air (my company), require you have a dispatch certificate though the feds do not require it.
 
Do you have any experience dispatching? That is the big thing right now. We have a backlog of internal employees with a dispatch certificate. What we need right now is experienced dispatchers. They are always hiring right now as there is alot of internal movement. If you dont have the experience as a dispatcher I would suggest trying getting on in another section of operations. If you want to do dispatching I would suggest Kalitta Charters. You would get some good experience over there and then you could apply for Kalitta Air when you get the experience. The big thing is getting your foot in the door.
 
Yeah I've got some using F:WZ. I never had operational control or put my name on any release (not 23) though.
 
I can tell you one thing for sure, experience is important but YIP jobs are also all about who you know.
