I've read through some of the comments and the way some people are treating this guy is really laughable. I personally don't partake in the kind of language this guy was using, but it is VERY rare to not hear crewmembers not use foul language. I even had a crewmember go as far as to brief me that "In this cockpit, there will be no foul language.." and on about day 2, leaving DFW, he's using it himself..

Hate speech, people need to get over themselves..

Tolerance is a funny thing. Seems those who demand tolerance the most are the most intolerant of things they find "intolerable." Eh, rant.. nevermind..
 
Yeah, it's a freak accident that can happen to anyone.

But I think the moral to the story is to check for a stuck microphone every once in a while.

Yup, I've had some pretty "colorful" conversations in the cockpit but now more than ever I've seen the consequences of not being very careful.

I wonder if the pilot is bidding much Chicago these days? :)

To put this event in an office scenerio.... "Tommy and Bob were at the watercooler making comments about another co worker and Susie overheard."

I've learned my lessons about stuck mics at a job I had in High School. I worked at Old Navy where all of the employees have to wear walkie's with the headset. One of the features on the walkie is that if you heod the button down too long it would automatically stick on. I really disliked the work ethics and ability of one of my co workers. I think that day, I was upset with her for working slowly and me having to always help keep her part of the store in order. So I go blabbing and ranting to another coworker about it. Low and behold my mic sticks for everyone including management to hear. Luckily for me, this young lady did not have her headsets on at the time and didn't hear any of it. Management came over to me and discussed the issue with me and tells me that I am lucky that she didn't hear it. My job is spared and I learn one of those life lessons. :)
 
Did they do anything about the slacker?

Wouldn't it be more like "Tommy and Bob were driving to work in the car pool lane, and Tommy accidentally called Suzie and Suzie put the phone call on speaker phone.."

Fortunately Bob did not speak during the conversation and can be shocked by what he heard.

No, that's not analogous at all. The car driving to work is not the work place. The cockpit is.

I think the location of the conversation is not his biggest foul but the content. If this conversation happened outside of work and somehow made national news, he'd still be under fire from protected status groups. However if it happened at a bar he could claim then he was drinking and didn't really mean it. Maybe he should claim to have been drinking before work and did not mean what he said.

My point was that you say things like this would never have happened 40 years ago and you simply don't know what you are talking about. Those of us who were alive and functioning in the world then do. At one year of age, you don't qualify--sorry.

Modern workplace? I haved worked in what many would consider the "modern workplace" at different companies for the past 15 years. Several of the companies have wished they could say this, and many management and HR types will say it anyway for new hires and PR purposes. Fact is, while many "modern workplaces" want to put on a PC face, it usually breeds more hate and discontent internally than if they just left it alone. Dog eat dog, buzzword bingo, screw unto others..., and the backstabbing olympics are principle mantras of the "modern workplace".

Not that I disagree with the idea, but what industry do you work in where such a workplace honestly exists? I would like to think that I have just had a run of bad luck. Do you work in management?

You're saying at most work places employees feel that the older women (30?) should be fired and replaced with young inexperienced hotties? I work in the higher levels of IT (complex not management) for a private utility. I've also worked as an Air Traffic Controller and IT consultant. Not saying I don't notice an attractive woman but I do respect my female coworker, the knowledge and experience they bring to the table.

I'd understand wanting all women replaced with young hotties if I worked in a strip club. Whats that pay, about $15 an hour?

I would consider FA's at my company around the age of 30 to be "young inexperienced hotties."

You must hang out some real sketchy cubs. I guarantee a woman working at a good club makes way more money works way less hours and does not have to get drug tested or show up sober. If I was younger and hotter and a woman I would consider a career change.
