Baggy Pants Lead To Football Player’s Arrest

I'd reason to bet that this guy was a major pain, not just someone not complying with being asked to pull up his pants. Look at his checkered past.

I need to relearn how to multi post reply. Sorry I do think it is about style, and should have been a non issue. But I would bet a guy wearing a ridiculous Hawaiian shirt , cowboy boots and docker chino shorts WITHOUT dreads would not have been messed with.

If his ass (covered by underwear) was hanging out, I bet damn sure he would have....

Probably not, but I can guarantee the dreadless singing cowboy from Times Square would be asked to change or deplane as well.

Why is racist brought into this? Seems shallow but all too common in this day and age. His pants were below his butt and his boxers/underwear was showing. His race is irrelevant. Period. Nothing more would have come of it had he fixed his pants. Instead he escalated the situation and inconvenience hundreds of people. People try to make things about race when they have no other argument.

Excellent post. I read another much more in depth article and his mother said he was steroetyped because he was black and had dreads. My point is simple. If the initial reports are correct he was wearing lounge pants. We had a chain of off price stores and we sold a lot of "urban wear". Lounge pants and saggy jeans are a style EQUALLY valid as wranglers and s.kickers. A lot of people on this thread don't know anything of urban wear and are jacking the jaw when they no nothing of the style. It is not personally for me, and I am not sure that he doesn't what he got. But if it was an issue of lounge pants, he was provoked.
Mr Mcdoughnut- Racism isn't so blatant anymore. I've heard 3 white people utter the "N" word in my life. But I've seen racists of all colors in my life. It is a free country but you are not free to discriminate in public accommodation. Take a lesson in other cultures or please bow out of the conversation.

Those that use the N word should not concern you.

Those that believe in the N word should scare the piss out of you and throw you into a violent rage.

There are more people that believe in the N word than use it.

Exactly or whatever slur people believe but won't use. There is a phrase in Spanish that translates, "He who warns does no perfidy". I've seen it before with similar results, and I could do nothing to stop it. Won't happen on my watch.

A few years ago I was riding on Southwest from New Orleans to Dallas. Some fellas boarded ahead of me, all with sagging pants that showed their underwear. I was ok with their attire since I didn't give a crap and planned on sleeping for the short flight being it was delayed and departed after midnight.

Once airborne, I was almost sleep and started hearing this wretched sound coming from the row in front of me. It was those darn fellas with their sagging pants playing rap music form their cell phones. It was audible 4-5 rows either side of them. People began complaining and a few (including myself) asked them to turn it down and off. After we all got ignored, everyone around them pushed their FA call buttons. The flight attendants came and politely asked them to turn it off because it was causing a disturbance to other passengers.

The real sad part of the story came when the whole row of ass showers began really showing their asses. They all began grumbling about the "inconvenience" of having to turn down their music and how their flight was ruined. They were actually pissed that the people around them did not like their rap music playing over the cell phone speaker. The rest of the ride to Dallas was filled with non stop bitching from these people requesting numbers to call for refunds and file complaints. I blame that horrible movie Soul Plane...

People like that either do not understand what politeness or courtesy is. Whether your are black or white, when you step onto an airplane with limited personal space, STFU and ride quietly, your not in the hood anymore.

winner. You're exactly right. It is NOT a freaking race issue, and I HATE when people turn it into one for no reason whatsoever. I can't even believe someone mentioned civil rights. This is all about politeness and respect. When I'm driving through the ghetto here and I see a white dude and a black dude both walking down the street with their pants around their butt, I don't think "Man I wish that black guy would pull his pants up!".

I had a similar issue as Junkie on a recent Airways flight, however it didn't go on the entire flight, only when we were taxiing in. A guy had his rap music turned up so loud you could hear it clearly and that's just downright disrespectful. Apparently though that thought process makes me a racist

For some, sadly, everything is an issue of racism in some way, shape or form.
Absolutely correct. However there are people intolerant or ignorant that look for an excuse because they can't just come out and say it. I use to believe that racism is dead but have had my eyes opened on more than one occasion.

But I wasn't there. Kid might have been a jerk and was way wrong. I remember prudes in the religion I grew up in that would go apecrazy over seeing a slip-" 'em unmentionables".

BTW in some of our stores in Spain we sold FUBU lounge pants of different plaids (long john urban "underwear" to non hiphopsters) to golfers in Spain. Hopefully they wore underwear under this "underwear". But then again it is a freer country in some respects. You are free to go nude on the beach and free to look away.

There's both sides of the coin still in existance, I agree: People who are indeed racist, as well as people who play the race victim card at every turn and in every way. And thats too bad.

I often wonder how prevalent racism truly is. Yes I know it exists, but is it as epidemic as we would like to believe? OK, I am white and don't have a lot directed at me, but I also hang out around a lot of white people and have never seen them be racist. We have talked bad about certain individuals that perpetuate stereotypes, but that's not a race thing. I've also talked to several black friends about racism and how they experience it. The answer I get are always less than eye opening.

Yes I know that racism exists and that it is dirty. What I question is the notion that it is as abundant as Al Sharpton would make us believe.

It is out there. I have heard terrible things about a lot of different races from the guys I fly with. It doesn't stop at race either. I don't "look" Jewish so I hear a lot from the different captains about our Jewish passengers. After hearing enough about Jewish passengers to make me sick I now hide the fact I am Jewish. I do this because I fear that if my coworkers knew I was Jewish it could interfere with my job. I don't even really practice Judaism but I fear discrimination. This is what I live with in my daily life at work. I am certainly not the kind of guy to scream bloody murder and claim someone is an "anti Semite." I just want to get on with my life. So now I hide my religion from my coworkers.

It was really weird lying about not being Jewish for the first time. It kind of made me feel sick. At least I know what it is like to be discriminated against. It sucks.

Living in Europe for 10 yrs I didn't have a lot of problems as I learned the language and didn't make my nationality an issue, in fact I only mentioned it if asked. But I have had a lot of ignorant people tongue lash me over my nationality. Not nice. My son is Caucasian but a little shade darker than I and had an accent when he came to the states. Luckily he was a good athlete and the bullys learned he wasn't a soft target. Still sucked... As pilots, we should recognize that "racism" might not mean hatred, but rather fear. The effect is the same. Again, I wasn't there, but I can see how the guy felt unjustly signaled out for his attire.
