Kingsville or Meridian?

Doesn't ring a bell. Everyone had those IP's who were known for giving downs. I remember our guy in advanced, even his name, an S-3 pilot who just handed them out for various reasons. I only flew my OCF with him so I was lucky. Won't matter much now as the down system will be gone soon enough.

Which is sad b/c I'd say downs are a productive measure when used and dealt with properly. What will be the new system? I know a girl who got 3 pink sheets in primary and still came to Merids....

The cases of IP's that refuse to give superior grades in the face of superior performance because of a self imposed limit on good grades are not looked kindly upon by studs... As I am sure you all must remember from your days of being a stud.

When you're older, you have slightly different interests than when you're 22 and fresh out of college.
Let's see... guns, airplanes, entertainment, water sports, food... what am I missing here, Hacker? Oh yeah: you're talking about "ladies".
Well, being married, I can't speak very well to that subject WRT Meridian. However, I generally like the same stuff I did when I was 22. I spent my first 4 years in the AF in Del Rio, Texas,... and despite many people complaining about it daily, I learned to wind surf and ski.
Bottom line: if any of you go to Meridian (or Kingsville), make the best of it. If you didn't have a great time while you were in pilot training, earning your wings,... then you didn't try hard enough.

MPTS...there are no more downs. Unsats, yellow and pink sheets from what I recall. No more "downs".

As it should be, I don't understand that concept either as an IP. I grade according to performance, whether I like you or not

The cruelty of the NSS recalculation has found me. I was 53.5 yesterday, I am 50.2 today (Marines need 52 for jets). Apparently the "cross country hookup" is alive and well for everyone but me. As tempting as it is to be pissed off at the system, at the IP's I felt graded me harshly, at everybody but myself, the truth is that if I had gotten grades in the high 50's or low 60's, I wouldn't be in the unenviable position of being forced into the helo pipeline in at the last minute by a recalculation of grades. Such is the bitter irony of premature hubris. I apologize for wasting your time with this thread, I'll be at McGuires with a ty steak and an Irish wake by the end of the month, dreaming what could have been every time a jet flies over. F me.

Sorry to hear that man, but like everything else, just brush it off. If you hadn't noticed, Marine helos do some pretty damned cool stuff. I have a lot of helo buds, and really without exception, they all have come to love it. You did a solid job in primary, even if you just barely didn't make the jet cut, so keep up what you have been doing. Pcola should be a pretty good time after being in Corpus, so enjoy that. It is way better than Meridian, at least if you are interested in drinking beers on the beach with women of questionable morals and a 90% chance of developing cankles in the next 5-10 years. :)

BAMCIS, recommend you D.O.R.

Life's a bitch dude. Some of us have been there (hint...hint). Sometimes success is doing what you have to do, not what you want to do. I had a mid 50 NSS score mid-way through forms in primary, had two not so great flights in my last four flights, ended up with low 50's and got E2/C2. Way it goes. You'll enjoy what you do, guaranteed.

BAMCIS, just remember when you get to HT-8, let them know how screwed your life is and how much you wanted jets. That should help come assignment time....

Apparently the "cross country hookup" is alive and well for everyone but me.

Sitting here talking to a Reserve T-34 IP from P-Cola, it appears that the "cross country hookup" exists for those who exhibit a positive attitude and the IPs feel would succeed in the tacair arena, but are otherwise on the fence.

And too Bunk, having a 52 NSS only means one is qualified for jets, not that they'll necessarily get one?

Right, what that means is if there is a slot available and you meet the minimum NSS qualification, you could select tailhook.

And here I thought that's what happened when male IPs took female students X-C...

How about female student goes on T-34 ccx with reservist IP, decides that he was a hater on the grades, complains to ops, gets grades changed, and that 48 corrected NSS suddenly becomes a 50 and she goes TH. Too bad BAMCIS doesn't have the anatomy to pull that little stunt

C'mon now, that never happens..

That's crazy talk. :D

I've been reading up on the Cobra, 135 degrees of roll and 90 degrees of dive, 190 knots right off the deck... I suppose I could pick up the pieces of my broken life and find a way to enjoy that :). As for the ccx hookup, I overheard a couple buddies in the ready room talking about how they felt like they F'ed away every flight but ended up getting 4-5 fives on each hop and no 3's. I felt I did a solid job, and I felt I got fair grades. Water under the bridge. Gen. Peter Pace spoke to us after TBS and said when the Marine Corps disappoints you with an assignment, take 24 hours to complain about it and be unhappy, then shut up and dedicate yourself to being the very best you can at that job; there will be Marines depending on you.

He gave me a Commander's coin during OEF in '05, asked about the family. He spend a good 10 minutes talking to me. That was a real honor.

Good luck to you BAMCIS.
