It's not far from my hotel and another pilot from my company was number behind it for take off and saw the entire event. It is not likely that the pilot got out of this one.

It's confirmed he didn't quite make it... RIP

I'm about 5 miles away and a coworker of mine live about a quarter mile from the crash, he didn't see or hear anything :/

I'm don't want to speculate too much because we don't know the cause yet BUT (yes I know)... taking off over max gross is par for the course for a lot of those operators around here. :(

It was not a good sight, if it's the guy I'm thinking about I have seen him at the airport alot. I was holding short and saw the whole thing. Not good at all. RIP!

Really surprised they are still using Beech 18s these days. They've served their purpose and need to be retired. One crashed out in Kansas a few years ago. Pilot was killed in that accident too. It was a UPS run and is now a Caravan.

I flew them for years. You could get them for next to nothing, and engines were sitting on the rack, overhauled, for 12K a pop, cheaper than the 152's engines.
Now, insurance is another matter. But they let an operator into the game pretty cheaply.

Whats wrong with the 18? It serves well.

Brought a LR45 in to OPF today, the rampers were pretty shaken up about it. They saw it happen and apparently knew the guy. RIP.

RIP to the pilot.

Does anyone know which operator it was? Monarch Air Cargo lost a Beech 18 with everyone on board a few months back in the Bahamas, they operate out of FXE however, not OPF.
