Hello
Not sure I'm in the right spot but any help would be great, Just checking on some feed back? I got hired with an airline for ramp service, now I have to do a Fingerprint background check I have a DUI 8 years ago and 3 years ago A Disorderly Conduct with a family member on my local record, is this going to come back when the do the check and not clear me is this something that will hurt my chances? They are both misdemeanor.

Truthfully, I don't know. However, my best guess would be that it won't. But, whatever happens, just always tell the truth. Mistakes are routinely forgiven, but lies will almost certainly sink the boat.

Good luck in your new job.

Thank You, the only thing I'm nervous about I did not put it on my application, I have not gone to the fingerprint check yet, should I tell the person that hired me I did not put it down on my application I was just to embarrassed I know some of the workers there when I got layed off 5 years ago with the airline, I just do not want the TSA to find out and I did not put it on my Application and think I lied. I think it is the TSA that will be doing the check, the person that hired me said when they do the check they do not tell them why they do not clear they just say yes or no. If I say anything do you think it may mess things up?

If the application asked for that specific information (i.e. Misdemeanor convictions or any law involvement) and you didn't put it down because you were too embarrassed, then I hate to tell you, you did lie.

Now, if the application only asked for felony convictions, then you may be ok as long as the TSA doesn't consider your record as disqualifying...

Whatever comes up, the truth may be embarrassing but will turn out good a lot of the time, but a lie will almost always be found out and is never good...

For what it's worth, when I worked ramp at my last company there was at least one guy with us that had felonies in the past, or so he said.

You have 2 issues to contend with. The first is with your own HR office for not providing all the details on the application. The second is with the local airport authorities. I know a guy who was cleared with a misdemeanor assault conviction, but it took him going to the office several times with papers and acting like a professional. It may be at their discretion, so interact with them accordingly.
Luckily it's only a low paying ramp job...McDs is hiring 50k people, can always try with them.

I know at the airline I worked for would do a pre employment background check and authorized company managers woud sign a copy of the background check an provide it to the airport authority to get ramp access.

If you lie to the airline and it sneaks through you'll be forced to lie to the TSA as well.

You knowingly withheld information because you felt it would hurt your opportunity for employment. Functionally, you lied. If it is ever found out, all the airline can do is fire you. However the TSA might prosecute you. Is it really worth it for a low paying ramp job, particularly one that you got laid off from 5 years ago?

And I must admit morbid curiousity. What have you been doing for the past 5 years that an airline ramp job is a step-up?

Why are you certain that it's a low paying ramp job?

Maybe he wants the flight benefits. Could be lots of reasons.

maybe he just wants to be around aviation. I know people who would gladly give up some disposable income to be part of the aviation industry even if as a ramper. Hell I have ramper friends who actually enjoy the fact that they get to see these huge beasts in a way most people will never see. They love it, I probably would too!

Why is it being treated as a foregone conclusion that a financial sacrifice would have to be made in taking a ramp job? Compensation for ramp at places like Southwest and FedEx is better than most flying jobs (regional, cargo, FI, charter).

I worked the ramp for UA for almost 12 years. The last three years that i was there I made around $70,000. Yup, $70,000. I was fuel qualified (when UA had it's own fueling department). There weren't many fuel qualified people there so I was offered a 7 hour holdover just about everyday.
Obviously bankruptcy took all of that away but if it didn't, I swear that I never would have left.

At my current pay, I would be taking a cut going to any regional.

I work the ramp with a guy that got hired while he was in the middle of his DUI hearings, but he told them about it during his interview. They just put him in the bagroom until he got his driver's license back.

If that's what rampers make, it's no wonder the airlines lose money.
