Getting into Canada

I am putting together a flying trip up to Canada with a few different owners. A question popped up in our planning meeting. One guys who wants to come along has a disorderly conduct and underage on his record, could this be a problem crossing the border? I looked all over the internet and couldnt find any clear information on this. So I figured I would ask some of you who cross the border fairly often.

Stupid question here - but do the Canadians actually do an FBI background check on everyone going over or is it just the 'honor method'?

how a'boot that, eh?

That's a good question, they do enter every name you give into a computer system. I have always been told if you have a felony charge Canada will bar you from entry, but as long as it is not a felony charge you should be ok. Call Canpass and ask. 1-888-226-7277

Even if it's not a felony, it cold still be inadmissable. It depends on how the Canadians classify it.

Living in Seattle, British Columbia is a day trip. I have heard of friends and acquaintances over the years being denied entrance into Canada. The border crossing does seem to have access to some kind of database that they catch things.

They can definitely see "stuff," but as to what their database amounts to, I have no idea. I've been asked some ridiculously random questions before, things that I'm pretty sure there's no way they'd ever have any idea about (what street did you live on when you were 10 years?), which would seem to me just their way of studying your reaction and to get some idea if you're telling the truth about who you are or not.

I would think that a dis-con would be so minor that even if they saw it, they may ask you to verify it, but I really can't see them barring anyone for entrance because you got in a bar fight (or similar). However, that being said, nothing in life surprises me anymore....

We Canadians are friendly folk, pick up the phone and call Canada customs and just ask, be specific and honest "aboot" the details, they will tell you what you need to know.
