Hey guys,

Does anyone have leads on a job for someone with just over 500 TT?

I'm mainly interested in CA, AZ, or FL but I can relocate to other states as well depending on the $.

I have experience in 172 (G1000), 182, and Arrow

Thanks a lot,

Sina

Assuming you have your CFI; AZ - TransPac; FL - Flight Safety, AeroSIM; I just recently went on the job hunt and went to BestAviation.net and sorted through all the flight schools in Florida. I applied to about 10 different schools and got calls offering interviews from about 3 within a week or so; however ultimately by the time most called I already accepted an offer. Good luck.

Thanks,

Did you already have any experience?

Because most of the CFI jobs that I have seen require some dual given.

Yes I did have some dual given; however I actually picked up the phone and talked to a few flight schools that said they prefer CFI's with no experience because that allows them to teach them how to teach their way. Pick up the phone and call around, I think you will be surprised. Also, if flight schools have email addresses like info@whateverflightschool.com just send your resume/cover letter there. That is how I got responses, good luck.

Some say ideal candidates will have ... but they will hire lower, especially with so many guys getting picked up by airlines everywhere.

Ops, I guess I forgot to say that I don't have my CFI yet.

My bad,

I'm saving $$$ for my CFI but was hopping to find a gig while I do that.

Re: Low timer

Most of the drop zones in California require just what you have, 500TT. I would say you're in a pretty good position to get picked up by a skydiving company. They require 500TT because of their insurance, but sometimes they don't want much more than that. They know you're still learning and you'll be easier to teach. Also cause they know you're less likely to leave. a guy with 1450 hours would be out as soon as he found a 135 job.

Re: Low timer

Don't limit yourself to jobs only in California or Florida. There have been quite a few job posting for jump pilots all around the country on the big orange site in the last couple months. Tis the season.

Oh, I'm willing to relocate to anywhere in the states (except Nebraska lol).

I'd prefer California just because I have family out there so it would be a little easier for me.

It makes it tough to get an initial jobs out there when everyone wants some dual given. Just wondering how you made the initial step in getting dual hours?

Not everyone wants dual given. There are quite a few places that say "some dual given is preferred but not required." Start calling around.

This is absolutely true. Don't use that as an "excuse" for yourself to not even try. Beyond it being super annoying, everyone with a CFI and dual given started somewhere, and there are plenty of them out there. Don't be shy, go in to the flight school with confidence and a determined attitude. The first place I applied to I got hired at, with not a single hour of dual given.

Oh come on Nebraska aint THAT bad. Could be worse stuck in North Dakota or somewhere.

LoL trust me, Im one of the few people that actually likes Nebraska. The problem is that my dad has a restaurant in Lincoln and if I move anywhere within a 100 miles radius, he would expect me to run/ manage his business.

Hi Persian Pilot. I was curious how you got to 500 TT but have no CFI? Did you own your own plane or buy a share? I wish.....LOL...... I'm in the same boat as you. I am about to finish my COMM SEL with 275 TT and was looking as to what is out there these days. Seems like it's slim pickins for us low timers. I guess we have to do what it takes to get some experience. Good luck on your search, I have seen some postings for JUMP pilots. I also noticed you have C-182 experience, that's a bonus for you because a lot of the ads I see say something like, 25 hours minimum C-182 time required. I have no C-182 time so maybe I had better find some....Keep us posted if you find anything......

I've got 1200 hours and no CFI, it's not the only route. Jump then survey.

If you want it bad enough(do more than search the internet) and are willing to move there are plenty of jobs right now. Even ones that pay well.

I have been flying since 2006 and a friend of mine had a 172. He allowed me to fly it as long as I paid for the fuel. That's how I built most of my time (lots of X-countries to Vegas and California). I also did some splitting time with another friend.

It's doable; you just need to know the right people.

Flying jumpers will give you good experience. It may not be instrument stuff, but it'll give you a good foundation of "air-sense" and overall stick and rudder skills.. instrument stuff you can get later on. Not to mention, you'll probably be able to land most piston (and jet) aircraft way better than anyone else of your same hour range. Some of the planes are crap... but some aren't. It's a lot of fun and you can build 400 hours in a season. I'm a big fan of not working as a low time CFI. Not many low time CFIs actually have real decision making type flying under their belt. Most are worthless in my humble opinion.:D ... well not really worthless... but...

19 landings for me last Saturday. That is pretty typical for a busy weekend. I feel like I could land that thing in a muddy field with my eyes closed.
