Not so sure about the American jumpseat listing website

So lets say I just came from LGA on United and I'm in ORD expecting to keep flying United to go to SMF. The United flight unexpectedly cancels. I look up an American flight leaving in an hour later, but with zero internet access (thankfully I have wireless tethering capability on my cellphone for laptop internet access, but lets just say for those people who don't carry laptops) how are people supposed to list for a last minute flight? The American travel listing 800 number won't accept any more over-the-phone listings in a couple of days from what I hear.

While I do prefer the website to list, there are times where a phone call to American to list is the only way to get listed on a last-minute change to your commuting plans. How is this fair when our airline offers "walk up to the gate to list" service and an 800 number for jumpseat listings but American no longer does?

Wait... we can list as on off line jumpseater on American using the web? How? I never liked having to call.

I've found that in the past if I just tell the gate (or special services) that I'm on plan D or E or F, they'll have some sympathy for me and list me at the gate.

If you call the 800 # and listen to the message, they warn that something wicked this way comes (online listing).

The warning is not for off line jumpseat listing, I asked yesterday unless the agent on the phone didn't know what I was talking about.

This is correct. That warning only applies to people traveling on a ZED fare. If you listen later, it says you can just stay on the line to list as a D6 or D7 standby. Offline jumpseaters travel as D6 and I believe offline FA's jumpseating are D7. So you're still good to be able to list last minute over the phone.

I haven't used AA for jumpseating yet but I am curious. How "last minute" can you make that phone call? I would like to have them in my back pocket for commuting if I needed to. AE flights need to call this number as well?

One other question. I was looking up the phone number on the ALPA web-site and read this...

Call American NonRev for a "flight listing." Offline pilots are classified as a "D6." Offline jumpseaters are limited to one (even if cabin has seats). This is based on the first pilot to list at the gate. CASS participant. "Limited" jumpseat carrier pilots are limited to the number of available jumpseats on the aircraft (first come, first served). Unlimited jumpseat carrier pilots may occupy any empty passenger seat in the cabin.

The way I read that right is that AA will only put on pilot from another airline on the airplane (because there's only 1 jumpseat) even if there are say 10 open coach seats. Did I read that correctly?

If your company only takes 1, AA does the same. If your company offers unlimited, they take unlimited. D6L is limited, D6U is unlimited.

Ah! That makes since and is actually very fair. Thanks Buzo

Does American still not let people jumpseat international?

You have to be on their "international" jumpseat list. If your airline provides international service (and last I knew, Canada and Mexico didn't count) you could ride AA internationally.

This should change with recent TSA news related a few weeks ago. Hell, I'm told it should have already changed...but learned that wasn't the case...same goes to say that all American Eagle flights are not considered Domestic for Jumpseat purposes...(as indicated on ALPA's Jumpseat site).
