CFII Written Test

Just wanted to confirm that the Flight Instructor Instrument Airplane written test uses the same bank of questions as the Instrument Rating Airplane written test.

I have an instrument student that just passed the IRA test, and he is thinking about taking the FIIA right away too to get it out of the way.

I took my CFII immediately after my Instrument and I'll be honest, I got about 15% higher on my CFII

I thought the CFII written was based on the Instrument questions, while CFI is completely different and FOI is its own test as well?

Confused?

That's correct but my point is that since the Instrument, CFII and IGI are all the same test, if they have modified the Instrument exam, then it will also affect the CFII and IGI. I did the CFII and IGI at the same time and should complete my practical exam before my existing test expires so I do not have to restudy for the NEW Instrument exam.

Not to sidetrack, but how similar are they? I'm prepping for my II test and was going to knock out the IGI at the same time. I've heard studying the IR test bank was the best for the IGI and that if you only studied the II bank, you might have problems. Thoughts?

Back on track, I just finished my FOI, FIA and AGI and all the info I found was that of the instructor tests, only the FOI changed. When I took it there were probably about 10 questions I had not seen in the pactice test bank which was though Sheppard Air. Info on the link below:

You may well be right actually but I have always been told that it is the same test and having done all of them back to back, I believe this to be true....but I may be wrong.

Someone i know used King and Gleim for FOI. Failed the test. That is why i always recommend Shephard air.

I did the same.

Did my FIA and went right into the IGI like 20 minutes later. I remember that there was 10-15 questions that were exactly the same on both tests but nothing I hadn't seen before. But with all the recent changes I'd be careful....especially on the FOI and FIA.

I feel like this sub-topic should be a main topic, but to correlate with other poster's above, I received a 66% yesterday on the FOI after using the Gleim written test prep. Not to their fault, though, the FAA has recently changed the test bank as the links above show. I found the new questions to be even more based on semantics and arbitrary terminology that the FAA seem to think are relevant testing material. My guess is they hired an educational psychology intern to write the book, then had some desk jockey goon come up with some questions based on the text.

The update pages for the ASA material seemed a little bit more reliable and close to what I saw on the test than Gleim's update pages, FWIW.

Good luck to anyone taking this soon...I'm going to memorize the Aviation Instructor's Handbook before attempting that disaster test again
