90 day solo endorsements

Solo endorsement question...After the initial 90 days have passed, what is the proper way to extend the solo endorsement for another 90? I was under the impression that only the logbook endorsement needed to be added each 90 days, but today a Designated Examiner (private checkride) told my student that the student pilot certificate also needs a new endorsement.

Where?

No.

My flight instructors only endorsed my student pilot license once. They did the 90 day endorsement in the logbook.

Yup you need your instructor to just sign you a new 90 day endorsement in your logbook.

My CFi endorsed my SPC again and gave me the 90-day solo endorsement, but at CFI school they told us to just use the endorsement no second SPC.

student pilot cert is good indefinitely. You need a new 90 day endorsement in the logbook. Just another example of an examiner who doesn't know what he is talking about.

Just to re iterate and confirm what everyone else already said:

14CFR 61.87 (n) A student pilot may not operate an aircraft in solo flight unless that student pilot has received:
(1) An endorsement from an authorized instructor on his or her student pilot certificate for the specific make and model aircraft to be flown; and
(2) An endorsement in the student's logbook for the specific make and model aircraft to be flown by an authorized instructor, who gave the training within the 90 days preceding the date of the flight.

and notice how there is no time limitation on the endorsement in the student's pilot certificate

DPE is wrong. However, it is usually best not to argue. Just bang your head, sign the student pilot certificate again, and move on.

I would point it out to the examiner, and also the FSDO that he works out of. I wouldn't argue with the examiner though.

Don't trust the FSDO's word for it either.

I'd trust it more than the DPE. If you really wanted to go balls out, get a letter of interp. and show that to both the FSDO and the DPE. Or you could have the DPE actually read 61-65E, which very clearly states in part:

Seems to me, like the m/m endorsement it only required once on the students pilot cert. How is a DPE going to argue that any different?

You would be surprised. We had a guy we used to use who would insist on putting FTD time in Section II of the IACRA, even though the checkride was being performed in the airplane. I even pointed to the instructions on the 8170 and his response was something like "well, we better go ahead and do it anyways." I just facepalmed and did it.

The above referenced guide says the logbook must be endorsed every 90 days to retain flight solo privileges. That could be interpreted to mean that
if there is a lapse of more than 90 days between endorsements, the whole process (ie SPC endorsement) should be repeated.

Just to clarify....this whole thing really isn't a big issue. the above referenced student passed, and is now a pilot.
And, i do agree with the consensus that only one endorsement is required on the SPC.
