100hr to complete block 5 of commercial?

Was just randomly flipping through my TCO today while waiting for the car to warm up to read this...

At the completion of this block you must have a total of 100.0 solo/dual hours (Airplane only) and 122.0 airplane / FTD hours within blocks 1 through 5.

I quickly added up all the block mins and found that the total for block 1 thru 5 is only 66.0 airplane hours, with 21.0 hours of FTD.

I suppose this has been around for a while, news to me is all... but really? Do they just expect me to bum around for 34 hours to complete 323? This is just dumb for those who flew 112 courses... I've never unstat a flight and had to do random RCs to meet block min standards for 221... I'm not looking forward to have to fork over more money to und.... damn part141. LOL...

I'll have close to 600 hours by the time i'm thru w/ 325... fml.

Are you sure you are adding your times up correctly. That seems like a lot to be short. I only had 8 or 9 hours to burn up in 323. Is blocks 1 through 5 221 through 323?

Damn! I hear central America is nice this time of year.

Do some talking you may be able to offset some of that time.

Yeah I wish I could... I'm sure they wouldn't be able to do anything, seeing as it is a FAA approved 141 TCO. ya know what I mean?

There is room to waiver things, I would agrue this is one of them. Go talk to ROES, he is a smart guy and has a good head on his shoulders, if he can help you he will. That is a lot of time and cash to, not so much waste, but a lot of days and time to burn when you already have a good chunk of time.

This is one of those big pet peeves I had as an instructor. Too many part 61 people got into the program thinking they were gonna save some money adding on their inst and commercial ratings only to find out their "part 61" time doesn't count. It wasn't well enough explained.

Had the same thing happen to me, although I was about 10-15 hrs short of block mins. Did several cross-countries (GFK-STP-DLH-GFK, GFK-BIS-GFK, and a couple others). Ended up being 0.4 short, so I went out and did a landing. Was quite ridiculous.

Also, time from 102/112 doesn't count so you're in the same boat as most other motivated students who finish courses right at minimums. I had it even worse--I had time credited into 222 from my Part 141 instrument rating from back home. Unfortunately, I then found out that I had to make up all the credited time in 323. It worked out though--I had just started dating my now-fiancee when I was in 323, and she lived in Duluth back then. So, every weekend I visited her and made up all my hours!

Man that's so BS. I'm pissed. LOL.

I'll prob do another 2-300 hours this summer too... man, I should just switch majors.

if you had that much time before you even started going to UND was a bad move on your part IMHO. the reason for the 100 hours after block 5 is because block 6 i only around 20. UND has approval somehow to make you a commercial pilot with less than the 190 required by part 141 (been a long time since i read all that stuff). so it is highly beneficial if you start with no time at UND, if you come in with a ton of time, it is just a waste.

not knocking you at all, as most people aren't in your situation and obviously the course is not designed for someone in your postition. go talk with ROES, he might be able to help

I would say you are too far into the aviation major to switch now :/

Yeah... ikr. Only thing keeping me here is Formula SAE.

Yeah it's ... came in with a few hundred hours and then got a hundred or so more last summer towing... Flying jumpers this summer so hopefully that'll get me a bit more time in the 206 and 208.

Who's this ROSE guy? Is that his ident or is that his first name? Don't wanna look like an ass walking into the place asking for the guy lol.

It was at mid-day. :(

"Sioux XX, runway 27R cleared for takeoff, right closed traffic". "Cleared for takeoff runway 27R, and this will be a full stop".

LOL. at least you weren't stuck behind a semi doing a 20min runup too d=

ROES. His name is Jeremy Roesler. He is the Chief Flight Instructor. I know he is on duty during the weekends.

ROES never works weekends..I would talk to the 323 course manager first, JPAL. Go to the ez site directory to look him up. He can sometimes comment out small amounts of flight times to give the go ahead for a course clear, but dont count on it. Many people fall under this category if they are good students, so whip up some long XC's.

Thanks for all the advice guys, looks like I'll just have to suck it up and burn a crapload of 100ll.
...Maybe i'll fly it to TVF, tie her down and just let the hobbs tick away while i play a round of golf? haha

...On another note... I'm not officially making 7.25 an hour fueling planes at UND! woot!?! LOL.

Look at the bright side, those 25hrs of XC could be the most fun you have flying!

Those 25 hours could be $3k I could be spending on my spec miata! hahaha.
