Are pilots really professionals?

I can probably talk him through an autoland if I was an ATC guy, but he'd need a nice long final! :)

"Ok, when the radio altimeter says "50!" I want you to pull the power back to idle and hold the nose up"

"LOL... WHUT?!"

"Nevermind"

Everyone wants the high paying job, and now they are upset that those days are gone. I still say it is partly because of the sense of entitlement that so many people have today. In the past, how many people drove new cars and bought houses that they could not afford with no money down, or went into tremendous debt to student loans without almost no guarantee that they would have a job that paid enough to live on? Now, people want to blame everyone else because they cannot live the lifestyle they desire. How is it that a CFI who is in debt over his head, and drives a new BMW, worries about which pilot watch he should buy, or a junior enlisted guy drives a new Tahoe when he makes a third of what I make while I have been driving the same, paid off, vehicle for years. I just think people need to step back and realize that nobody owes them anything, and if you cannot afford the nice things in life, it is up to you to improve your situation.

C-182, I graduated in 2009 as a CFI. I just this month got a job in South America. I'm not interested in the BMW, I'm interested in paying my student loans and ultimately landing that high paying job.

And yes, if you fly for a living you are most definitely a professional.

Largely, it's all a state of mind. Is a dentist a doctor? Sure. But does a Neurosurgeon see a dentist as on-par with his profession? Maybe, maybe not.

Personally, I think our profession has developed a terrible inferiority complex.

I dunno man, when you hear "But this plane's so SMALL" at least once a leg when you're doing 5 leg days, it's hard not to :)

"Small? It's bigger than your house and just as mobile!"

or

"How about we take your jet next time?"

or

"We're not compensating for anything!"

or

"This thing's like the Corvette of jets."

or

"Yes sir, I'll be sure to do my mag check next time."

Oh you guys and your shiney jets, You must be compensating for something.... :sarcasm:

Sure they do, they just call it "Insurance"

Is that why my Union sells loss of license insurance for a small fee and supplies me with legal, medical, and professional advice and assistance for the low low price of my monthly dues?

Hmmmm...
