4 Year old son Wow!

ZapBrannigan

If it ain’t a Boeing, I’m not going. No choice.
My 4 year old son just walked in with a book about the solar system. He showed me earth (This is Earth, where we live Daddy!). Then he proceeded to read me the names of all of the other planets (and Pluto!)

Wow! That Montessori education is really worth every penny. I am very impressed by my offspring today. Just wanted to boast a bit. Self clap.

Education is certainly always a sound investment a parent can make in their child. Good parenting decision.

Your son is a failure. He should know Pluto is no longer a planet. Was he watching The Wiggles when they made that announcement?

TOTAL :sarcasm:

I watched an ex's niece grow between the ages of 2 and 5. The amount of learning during that time frame is incredible. With a good teacher, it's mind boggling.

That's cool, dude. I have *four* nieces now and they're continually amazing us all. Maybe you should take the kid on a tour of the local planetarium? Might just be one of the next generation of NASA.

One thing to watch out for. All my kids did Montessori. When they hit kindergarten they were well ahead of the other kids, and we had to make sure the teachers kept them engaged. If not, the boys especially became disruptive. Of course, they are also in the public school system. Less chance of this happening in private school. Montessori is a good investment to make, just watch out for public school employees squandering the head start you give your kids.

Thanks for the advice Cptnchia. I think, at least for now, we're going to leave him in Montessori until the equivalent of 6th grade (as far as you can go here). I'm not impressed with the Arkansas public school system.

That's pretty cool Zap, congrats...always nice to know we didn't produce the next Taco Bell manager. My daughters Godparents send their kids to Montessori...they love it...I'm not sure I love the price tag...ouch.

Yeah it's pretty spendy. But money well spent compared to the public school system here I guess.

What exactly is Montessori?

Montessori emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading. Children in Montessori classes learn at their own, individual pace and according to their own choice of activities from hundreds of possibilities. They are not required to sit and listen to a teacher talk to them as a group, but are engaged in individual or group activities of their own, with materials that have been introduced to them 1 on 1 by the teacher who knows what each child is ready to do.

Everything is "hands on" from math, science, reading... but they also have an outdoor classroom where they work on gardening, caring for animals, etc. They learn life skills such as preparing food for their peers for snack time. It's really fascinating.

www.mariamontessori.com is a good website to help parents who are looking into the possibility of Montessori education.

Good for your son and you. Don't let them be ruined by the public school system. I can't imagine it is much different elsewhere, but the teachers here in Rochester MN are completely incompetent and the school system is so bass ackwards I am tempted to sue for my property taxes back.

Nah. Actually spent most of my youth in Pennsylvania. Went to high school in Knoxville, TN though.

They're coming smarter I swear it.

I think they are effected by smart phones waves and internet connections while still in the womb.
