IAP Chart Clarification

Take note of the localizer frequencies for both the ILS13C and ILS31C at KMDW. They are the same. How can this be? I've never seen this before.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Just about every runway is like that. Note different identifiers.

Tower has a switch that will change the runway for the approaches. We have the same thing at CAK for runway 1-19. 109.5 for both.

Because Tower has to change the runway in use they could forget, so definitely ident the nav before continuing.

Never knew that. So by switching to one runway, do you turn the "other" off? Is it two seperate beams with the same frequency but different identifiers?

Yes the other runway would be off. They will have separate identifiers to help distinguish which approach is currently selected.
