I'd bet they have a MTC department that is well compensated and good at getting things signed off to fly quickly. I worked at one of these miserable mills for a bit (not $8 miserable though). The MTC guys were taken care of well and could finish a 100 hour in about 20 seconds (however long it took to fill out the sticker) and squaks got stored in the open top cabinet next to the desk.

What a dreadful joke. Pilots can't take jobs like this and the general public needs to be made aware of how the treat their employees. There are various rating sites online where people could make their feelings known about situations like this when they happen upon them.

I always hear pilots say that the public should know how little they are paid. It comes out a lot on the regional forum on APC. Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly does this accomplish? Say you walked into your doctor's office and found out that doctors made a whole lot less than you thought, what exactly would you do? Offer to pay more?

Yep and yep. There are only certain people who are willing to pay more for their aircrew: the people who use them a lot, or people that demand certain types of service (a la VIPs). The rest just want cheaper tickets. You talk to the average traveler who doesn't fly all the time, or who doesn't rely on air service to keep their community alive (like in the bush) while they make think its unfortunate that you make a disgraceful wage flying for "Bob's Regional Airline and Ribeye Emporium," they don't care because the ticket was cheap, and it was faster than driving.

So far, what I've seen is that a career in flying is like having a business, you want to "make it?" You've got to find a niche where you're not like "everyone else." All of the guys that I know who make money in this industry either networked hardcore (as in knew practically everyone they needed to know), started their own business (that's another can of worms), or found a way to make themselves appear different/special/more valuable to hiring boards or companies. I'm gonna hedge my bets and try all three, your mile may vary. ;)
 
Good on you for not taking it, I make more than $8/hr as a server, a job any monkey with legs could do (in fact, I average >$20/hr, I love the fact that I'm getting into a career where I may have to take a pay cut at first after spending close to $25,000 on my ratings:drool:). Sad part of all this...if the position hasn't been filled, it will be filled very soon..As said above, you get what you pay for.
 
Good for NOT taking th job! But... we gotta know what flight school this is! (im from socal, so I am pretty curious!)
 
Are you sure it wasn't $8/hr base pay for being there on schedule and an additional $15 on top of that during instruction? If it is who I think you're taking about, they got in trouble a while back for making their CFIs show up for a scheduled time (whether they had students or not) without actually paying them unless they were giving instruction.

Yes I'm sure that's not what it was. Which school are you talking about? Is it located in El Monte?
 
I'm sorry, but I would have 1st gotten angry for this guy wasting my time and gotten red in the face. Then I would have laughed, told him "this interview is over" and gotten up and left his office. WTH! $8.00 an hour! Why not just fly for fun, and work at Mc D's on a regular set schedule.

I definitely took a pay cut when I left the restaurant for my first CFI job. It was worth it every single day. Worst day flying beats the best day fetching iced tea, lemme tell ya!

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for my first flying job, even if it means a pay cut. I'm not sure I can handle fetching iced tea (people get upwards of 9 refills of that crap...) anymore. 4 years is more than long enough for this business whereas aviation presents a new challenge everyday. The ability to use my mind and do what I love will make up for the small loss in pay initially.

Nope. Not who I was thinking of. Man, it burns me up there are flight schools like that, they probably bill the student for over $60/hr! What burns me up even more is there are CFIs willing to work for that kind of pay. Way to have some integrity.

I don't think so. When I was offered a job it was at $15/HR and then salary after 90 days back in 2008.

Still way low considering they charge 90/HR to the customer if I remember right.
 
Did you happen to notice what they were billing students for their $8/hr CFI?

Well they do have a 61 program but most of their business comes from Egypt for their 141 program.

I just called and found out they bill their instructors out at 45/hr.
 
Im pretty sure the local idiot makes more then that at wal-mart.
And I laughed at $14/ph in my area

Any free flight hour benefits or anything else offered?
