Oldie but goodie, F-14A vs Libyan Mig-23

The first Tomcat squadrons to visit Vietnam were VF-1 and VF-2 during the withdrawl of Saigon in April of 75, before VF-32's first Tocat deployment; they were also the fist Tomcat squadrons in the Navy. VF-32 was an East Coast squadron with with the Tomcat.

Ah, I've never done any research.. My pops always told me that they were on their way to Vietnam and turned around, as the war ended before they got there.. I guess I assumed they were the first. Thanks for clearing it up..

I got it off 32's website, they didn't deploy with Tomcats until the fall of 75' so the war was over by then. They certainly could have been directed there if it had not ended.

I don't know the details.. All I know is he flew the F-4 and then they transitioned to the F-14.. I've always been told that my uncle was on a ship steaming towards SE Asia and the war ended, so they came home..
