I was just curious if anyone had any info on the status of AMR. Do they still have furloughs? Will they be hiring sometime this year?

There is about 2,000 (about 900 have not been offered recall) guys on furlough not counting the Eagle guys with numbers. So 900 + about 700 Eagle guys before they start off the street hiring and even then it is 1 out of 2 will be Eagle guys for about the next 800 guys. So my guess is they will not be hiring this year.

Sat in a AA js last week and the crew said they called 500 and only 25 said yes.

There have been a few recalls (2, I think?). The pilot recalls have had substantial deferring numbers, because the guys have moved on and gone on to other positions they're not ready to leave and face the possibility of another furlough from AA. A friend of Bill's from his TWA new-hire class (TWA hire-date Feb '97) is still awaiting any recall. He recently started a contract flying job overseas, and if offered recall right now would defer to finish the contract, but he IS going to accept recall at some point. So just because there's a high deferring rate with the recalls, doesn't mean these guys aren't going to come back at all, they're just deferring.

On the F/A side of the AA recalls, there is no opportunity for deferring. You take your [one] recall when offered or you are gone. Period. The F/A recalls have had 75%+ acceptance rates.

Being the first hire in over a decade would be a pretty nice situatiom to be in. Obviously assuming that AA stays around for however long, being first on the list for 10+ years sounds pretty good to me.

Unless AA buys another carrier and you get hosed in an SLI. Either way, getting on with AA at the crest of the wave would be huge. I heard from an AA guy that about 1 in 10 were accepting recall this time around. It may actually be fewer than that. I know a few guys that are over at SWA as captains now that are furloughed AA. They said no way in hell would they leave their current gig to go back to AA. I'd guess for every guy that does accept recall there'll be at least 5 that won't go back for various reasons.

AA just announced a big trans-Pacific partnership with JAL. There have been crazy "call" orders on the AMR stock as of late. Apparently folks are betting that AMR stock will go WAY up. (Assuming I read that right. I'm definitely no Wall Street guy.)

The deferral rate is still high for APA furloughed pilots. As it were most of the next pilots in line to be offered classes at AA these days are senior Eagle Captains that hold actual numbers on the APA seniority list. AA is taking 30 to 40 of our senior Captains a month and that's projected to continue until May. At least.

The stock Calls and stuff seem to be the most telling thing. People seem to be putting their money on the line that AMR is about to go gangbusters. I can only hope- that'd mean continued hiring and advancement for all of us in the rank and file.

400 on the low end 600 on the high end. But not a lot out of 11k.

On the Delta list there are '07 Delta hires senior to pre 9/11 NWA hires even though NWA was hiring at the same time in '07. Apparently that was fair? You could go on and on.
