No Kansas City Center, I Won't Give You ANOTHER PIREP! +more

I fly the same flights practically everyday. It involves talking to St. Louis approach and KC Center. 80% of the time KC solicits PIREPs like they're going out of style. Honestly, when the weather's not bad, it's just plain annoying. I have no problem giving one every once in a while, but when I just landed at a non-towered field and took back off again 30 minutes later, they ask AGAIN.......really?

Also, when I check on the frequency saying "we've got the weather and NOTAMs at xxxxxx airport", please, don't read me the NOTAMs about cranes and this and that ANYWAYS. It's unnecessary chatter on the frequency and annoying as well.

On a brighter note, St. Louis is GREAT!

You don't live there, do you? And yes, certain sectors of KC Center have been doing this for years, and it's annoying. Especially when they read you all thirteen NOTAMs whether you say you have them or not. Maybe I'm behind the times, but I thought as PIC I was supposed to have checked those before I took off.

I can count the times I've read NOTAMS to pilots on one hand, because pilots are supposed to be aware of the. This confuses me, must be a really slow area.

Wow, that's probably the first time I've ever heard someone say that. Every time I've dealt with KC Center on the eastern portion of the coverage area, I was quick to give them tops & bases, and they were happy. Beyond that, I was never questioned, but being in a GA plane, they may not pester so much.

You hit the nail on the head.

I meant St. Louis approach :). St. Louis itself is crap.

My favorite is when ABQ center asks all westbound, VFR aircraft along the I-40 corridor on a severe clear day if they are aware of the rising terrain along our route of flight. You mean that giant mountain at about my 2:00?

Probably is slow. It's not the controller's job to tell us Notams, it's our job to know them.

ya, For some reason the FAA wants is to read them to you. Controllers generally don't want to read them to you any more then you want us to.

Lol, I had this happen to me on ABQ center. Severe clear - "50V are you familiar with the terrain ahead? Uh... yeah, you mean those big rocks rising 10k ft out of the ground?" lol.
We were around I-10 into El Paso.
Then I had LA center ask me the same question the other day, after I had been circling in the same area for 45+ minutes. Again severe clear. I just loled.
LA also calls traffic for me that is more than 4000ft above me and level.

well that dosent suprise me, some asshat in DC prolly got a promotion for that one. back in 1987 some numb nut manager in DC put out a procedure that controllers had to have the A/C ident in initial contact as a way of reduceing errors. it just turned into a joke with the pilots "hay Chicago UAL1 at FL310 heres your ident haaaaaaaaa". i just refused to do it.friggrn FFA!!!!!

These centers have a ton of management and anytime ANYTHING happens they have to come up with a "new initiative" to reduce errors/accidents to make the FAA happy. At our center if you have the notams and weather great, I'm not reading them to you. Kansas City center probably has some rule about that. Same with Pireps, at my facility per area there's a requirement per hour. The supervisors keep a log and turn it in. This is likely a national thing. Your just having bad luck getting picked all the time :-P

Re: No Kansas City Center, I Won't Give You ANOTHER PIREP! +

At my center, we have to read the Notams, even if you say you have them. There is also a big push for PIREPs here. We also have to say "current automated (destination) weather". So, "LakesAir 121, advise when you have the current automated PIR weather"

Re: No Kansas City Center, I Won't Give You ANOTHER PIREP! +

Do PIREPs that are delivered to center usually disseminated to the national weather system or do the PIREPs stay 'in house' at that particular center?

They are nationally disseminated. All centers currently have NWS meteorologists onsite, and all PIREPS are submitted to them. So not only does the PIREP get distributed to every area in the building, it is also sent directly to the NWS for dissemination through other channels.

Oops I meant "Are Pireps..."

Hey, you leave the Future Farmers of America out of this, you! (kidding, of course. Obviously, you meant "FAA")

Look, don't cut them any slack, all those new farmers are willing to work for less, and we can't have them messin' with our industry. Would you believe that they're willing to pay to milk cows?! I tell ya, the things that are wrong with this industry.

Automated wx can change 10 times in 10 minutes... whats the point of relaying to the controller that you have the current automated wx? By the time they acknowledge my "current" wx could very well not be current anymore....

Re: No Kansas City Center, I Won't Give You ANOTHER PIREP! +

What's wrong with PIREPs? I'm a prostitute for PIREPs, both giving and receiving. :D
