Airport shoeshine

As I travel generally in black leather boots, I always try to make time before, after, or between flights to get them shined by the shoeshine vendors at airports I go through. In PHX tonight, I had on a pair of pretty trashed boots, and figured I'd let the guy make an attempt to do something workable with them. The shoeshine gentleman worked for over 15 minutes on them, and turned them into clean leather with a glass reflection as well as edge dressing. Wow. Well done. Price was $8 for a boot shine, and I paid him $16 for the work. Well done.

Anyone else ever use the shoeshine vendors at the airports? Good/bad/so-so experiences? I haven't had a bad one yet, but the one tonight was pretty amazing bringing these boots back to life.

Agreed! I can't believe how the guys at the airport can bring a shoe back from the dead. I use the guys in DEN in the B concourse, they do a great job!

Hey Guys,

I use the guy in DTW right next to the "Online Cafe".

He's brought my shoes back from the dead, and kept the Chief Pilots at bay for years now.

There is a guy in BOS, used to be terminal B, I think he moved to A, always calling any pilot Captain. He does a great job, and if his chair is empty, the shine is free... He says when the public sees a pilot on the chair, it inspires them to get a shine also...

Funy thing though, it never failed. I'd walk past 3x and he'd be empty.. I would finally have enough time, hop on... and sure enough the 3 other chairs would be full in minutes. He never charged, but I always tipped.

I gotta check him out!

I have NEVER had a bad experience with airport shoeshines. They always do an impeccable job!

There was a guy in LAX at Terminal 7 - Marvs Shoe Shine. His service is actually free, but he relies on tipping obviously, which is well deserved! He always is real nice to chat with, and wont stop till your shoes have a spit shine on them!

I've been to the BOS guy several times, and always enjoyed it. Probably the best shine I've had, though, was the guy across from our gates in RDU. I had a huge scuff thanks to a jet bridge door on the top of the toe of my shoe...can't find it now if I try.

Do y'all think the shoe shine guys have an online forum where they talk trash about the guys who do it for free? "It's jackasses like Marv that keep our pay so low! He's causing a race to the bottom!!!!"

:rotfl: Well done sir....the problem is that Marv is just doing it as a hobby, while the other guys think it's a profession. Oh Marv....when will you learn?
