CFI Oral Tomorrow Morning

CFI-A initial tomorrow morning! Luckily, I've been preparing for this since May, so I'm not too nervous about it (but maybe just somewhat anxious :p). But still looking at a few things and relaxing for the rest of the night. Can't wait to get this over with :) I'll have a write up once I'm done!

Goooood luck! Sounds like you are really prepared and confident, you'll do great. A write up would be AWESOME and greatly appreciated...I have mine on the 15!
 
I remember my night before the exam...That was three years ago and I'm still trying to catch up on the sleep!

Well...I passed!!!!! Started off for the first 45 minutes with FOI. Had me teach it in a "relaxed environment" (more like a conversation). Did the Learning Process, Human Behavior and Effective Communication, and of course Flight Instructor Characteristics and Responsibilities. Once we finished FOI we moved into the Technical Subject areas. First thing we covered was Visual Scanning and Collision Avoidance. He had me incorporate as many of the Special Emphasis Areas as I could (CFIT, Runway Incursion Avoidance, etc.). After covering this we did Airplane Weight and Balance (taught terms/effect of weight on the airplane, characteristics of forward/aft CG, did a sample problem, then a shift weight problem and an add weight problem.) Right from Weight and Balance he had me teach Performance and Limitations (not too bad either). After that we did Night Operations (really wanted me emphasized CFIT and actually FLYING an airplane at night. Don't tell the student to still focus outside. That's impractical. Use more of the inside references to help guide the student.) After that he had me teach Airworthiness Requirement. For this he wanted me to teach all the regs then do a full example. I did strobe lights inop on the C172S. So of course we talked about when an MEL is required and then referenced 91.205, AD's, VFR day-type certificate, and of course the KoEL. Then we talked about ok so if it's not required what do you have to do and what makes it legal to fly. If it is required what can you do to go flying. After that we took a ten minute break and then he had me teach Steep Turns. Only thing that I kinda tripped on was why does the right turn require more right rudder than the left turn requires left rudder. I thought of left turning tendencies but I couldn't be very specific. I was already kinda worn. He issued me my Letter of Discontinuance and just waiting to do the flights now :)
 
When doing the FOI for the oral, do you teach it like you're teaching a flying lesson? As in, can you reference notes while explaining it? Or can you at least have the CFI PTS out so you can go through the topics (effective communication, etc). I'm studying for my CFI and didn't know if they'd just say "Tell me everything about FOI" and you're supposed to be able to cover everything off the top of your head.
 
it's perfectly OK to look something up if you need to- just don't be constantly looking things up

Good question! It'd have been a lot easier to present the FOI material as a lesson, but it didn't work that way for me.

The above is the way the FOI portion went for me. It consisted of a Q&A session of sorts about the material, and he then led a discussion about teaching people, while throwing situational questions out there.
