Continental found guilty in French court

the airline for going without their SOP's(runway inspection) being complied with.

That right there would get me canned by my airline and likely certificate action from the FAA in the event of an accident....and that's IF I live.

Funny I think this may be the only time in history that the french didnt back down (surrender)

I think you really need to buy an history book.

I dunno guys most of you talk like the French are such but maybe don`t know anything about them other then what the media say. It`s a fact the French govt and especially who is in power in Paris acts like they know everything better...but 99% of the French are not like that, I`m pretty sure most of them don`t even know that they want some money from a US airline, and honestly they don`t care if the pay or not.

I think what they did during the last War was the right thing to do, they just used common sense and time as proved they were right, if you still have the history book open in front of you look where the French have influence around the world and what could have happened if they decided to get involved, don`t even need to leave France just take the metro or the bus and look around you.....

I think most Americans really need to get over this hate for France, it does not make any sense....

Some peoples here seem to think they will have to take out the 1 mio out of their pockets, honestly who really cares, how many peoples in the US get sued for the most stupid reasons???

Alex

You guys realize that a million dollars in damages is less than Continental probably paid to their lawyers to fight this, right?

CAL will pay it, write down the damages in their taxes somehow and go on their marry way and everybody is happy.

Yeah, but it's the point of the matter. Put blame where blame is due kinda thing, ya know.

I think you miss the point, we enjoy making fun of the French, we don't hate them. It is all in good fun and if you can tell me honestly the French/Europeans don't do the same we'll stop. We know history, the French played an irreplaceable role in our independence and have been a valuable ally over the years it is just fun to make jokes

Ya that's kinda BS....CAL may be party responsible, but they definitely don't deserve all the blame (or even most). Not that big of a deal for them to pay $1m anyway, but the mechanic getting charged with manslaughter? Really?

Well I guess then it`s ok, it`s just sad when you ear some comments (not referring to this thread) that are just pure ignorance

btw I also think that this is all BS, but will it affect us? NO...so why care?

Because it is a perfect segway for surrender monkey jokes

Yeah, but it's the point of the matter. Put blame where blame is due kinda thing, ya know.

The point? The blame? The indignity of it all?

It doesn't matter. What matters is dollars and the ability for Continental to continue to do business in the Eurozone, and with France specifically. Anything else is a sideshow.

That's pretty much it. A million Euro is el cheapo when compared to CAL losing rights to fly to France. And remember France (nee, Air France) controls KLM as well.

Why wouldn't they be? It's their airspace, they can do what they want with it.

They could outlaw CAL outright for no reason if they wanted to.

Where was that article that described CAL as a big law firm with a really big flight department written as Smizek took over?

It's true too, there are so many people with law degrees at the top there (and below them) its not even funny any more. Its like CAL is Smizek's "Harvard law buddy staffing firm".

If you're talking about WW2 I'd be really interested to hear why you think it was the right thing to do. Unless having a crap battle plan executed by crappy forces with crappy equipment, followed by surrender, followed by collaboration is your idea of "the right thing to do".

The greatest tragedy to befall France in the 20th century was probably the widespread condom use by American doughboys which could have led to a real "raising of the bar" of the French gene pool.

Tell me this is a joke.

If I was a higher up at Continental, I'd tell the French Government that we will pay the fine when Air France pays the fine for Flight 447. Their inability to change pitot tubes in a timely fashion, cost 216 people their lives.

If it is a joke it's in extremely poor taste.

I actually typed a very nasty reply but I thought it was giving this ignorant trailer trash waaaaaaay too much importance. This is just plain racist. Do humanity a favor and keep your gene pool to yourself.
