Luggage for Regional FO?

Sorry if there is a thread with this, I couldn't find it, I searched for it. I am a new FO for a regional airline, I haven't started flying yet, And people keep asking what to get me for xmas, and I was thinking of some nice luggage. I was looking at Luggageworksonline.com. I wanted to know what everyone thought was a good brand, and sizes? What sizes will be good for a FO, and what will fit in the planes?

Any suggestions or tips will help out a lot.

I have Luggage Works 22" and have been happy with it. Travel Pro is another brand, but the look like they break too easily. Also checkout Strong Bags, run by some SWA guys.

I have a Delsey that I love. Got it from Macys for 100 bucks. Also came with a lifetime warranty. I can't speak for the longevity of it since I only used it for 200 hours of 135 flying this year.

I have Briggs & Riley U21G, more popular with frequent fliers than crews, but still a good bag. Lifetime warranty, drop it off at an airport location and they will fix it. (in six weeks, so check and see if they will give you a loaner). Mine has been good for about 1,000 trips between major repairs. They J hook could be better.

Purdy Neat, Tumi, and travel pro are good choices too. Mostly depends on whether you want the garment bag or lots of external pockets.

I like the Travelpro products. They also have a killer deal for airline employees. Check to see if your company has the deal.

Consider if you can store it on your plane vs. having to have the rampers toss it around every flight. That purdy neat stealth bad is really durable but its quite a bit heavier then most of the other available bags and also a bit uglier IMO. I have a travelpro and within 3 months of use all but two zipper pulls came off the bag and the expansion zipper came undone. I brought it in to get fixed at the stop over store and they did a great job with it. About a month and a half later I lost 3 more zipper pulls. That is due entirely to ground crews throwing the bag all over the place. So if you are going to have a closet on board ur plane, you are going to get much longer use of your bag.

Luggage works = Pretty Neat Stuff = Pretty Neat Things = my bag that has lasted twelve years and four airlines. I finally had to replace the handle yesterday.

Zipper pulls don't last long, but all of they reputable bag makers will mail you replacements for free (they are easy to replace yourself).

It makes a BIG difference if you can keep your bag on the airplane with you. Especially considering all the gate checked luggage that happens with regional jets. Not having to keep track of your bag every single leg is a wonderful thing. I had a bad that was just barely too big for the overhead bin when I was on IOE... made it 4 days chasing my bag every time we stopped. Went home and ordered a LuggageWorks 22" Stealth from the stopover store and haven't looked back. It will probably be the last bag you ever buy.

Ask around at your airline. I'm willing to bet almost everyone has a LuggageWorks roller.

Well, +1 for the Strongbags. I've had it for just over 3 years of regional flying, and it has held up pretty well. I don't think it's quite as strong as the steel framed PNS bags (it has an aluminum frame), but I'm happy with it overall. Great customer service so far, too.
