Who would you prefer to fly with?

I've done both. C402s as well, hand-flying down to mins with a load of ice, landing with a tailwind on a snow/ice covered runway. My answer doesn't change (#2).

well, as others have stated, thats a technical ability, and has nothing to do with SOP. :dunno:
 
I do love me a Renegade (they'll do my Warlord wetwork for free, and consider it a "perk"). That said, in the unlikely and unfortunate event that I find myself making the sad choice described, I'll pick Mr. Rulebook. As umpteen people have said before, at least you know what they're going to do next. I haven't yet met an airplane that has a checklist too long to get through with time to spare if you're even halfway paying attention. And I'd rather slam-click the hotel door on a guy who's No Fun than bend some metal with a guy who will introduce me to porn starlets and wants to kick the tires and light the fires. I subscribe to the "Nancy" theory of crew flying. He who is Most Scared is Most Right. Yeah, we might go around when we could save some gas and not do so, but we aren't gonna make the obits in the next issue of the Bumscrew News. I've been Tough, I've been scared out of my mind in an Airplane many times over...it turns out it's nothing to brag about. Color me Yellow, but Caution before Valor every time.

I'll save my life-risking for my motorcycle and my Own Time.
 
Option 1 for sure. That keeps things interesting. Option 2 guys I've found to often times be so high maintenance that it can make for a miserable time.

I still say #2. I can deal with high maintenance. I don't really want my airline flying to be "interesting." Non-eventful and boring, please.
 
I still think #1 based on the original description on post #3 but it seems others have since then changed the debate to a more generic "non-standard guy" vs. "by the book guy" with which I would take the #2 guy. The non-standard guy depends on what and to which degree is non-standard and is it more technique or specific procedure?
 
#1 is probably way more fun on an overnight.

But right now the only 2-man flying I do is with safety pilots and CFIIs. I'd pick #1 in that case. #2 would just make me nervous, and he'd lead me to think he's a puss which will lead me to think he has no confidence in flying the airplane which will lead to me thinking he'd lock up if the doo-doo hit the fan and be useless. And I don't want to have to think like that when I'm flying. #1 I think I could actually learn from, I already know the proper way to fly the airplane, I'd be interesting to see how someone else does it their way. If he's about to kill me I'll do something, otherwise it'd probably be fine.

Interesting question tho because I do a lot of flying with another member on this site who is like a not nearly as annoying version of #2, and I'm a not nearly as stubborn version of #1. He'll do something like double check the weather for the second time in an hour on a perfect day and I'll roll my eyes. I'll get bored during cruise and put the plane in slowflight and giggle like a little kid and he'll roll his eyes. But we keep each other in check and I feel we learn from each other.
 
I'd prefer to fly with Lloyd. He's pretty awesome, dips in the cockpit, tells dirty jokes, and drinks black coffee on short final.
