Great Lakes hiring F/Os

The old-man with glasses comment.
The "look back on what you wrote in ten years" comment.
I don't know your route, but don't look down on anybody, especially when they are trying to make a better life for their family. What he wrote was perfectly acceptable.

Yes, any Legacy can point to the crappy pay of the regionals, but all the regionals are truly crappy, so why don't you and others post stuff like this in those other regional threads too?
It is perfectly acceptable to work for big-name crappy regional, that is why.
I am NOT looking down on anybody. I am telling people to try to be able to look in the mirror. I have in the past derailed numerous regional threads. Ask Wheelsup about my past if you do not want to look it up. He and I have went round and round in the past. Looking back, I was overboard with some of my comments, and I have apologized for them. However, I am one of the few saying SWA has brought the industry down. How many on here have said that??? I am an equal basher!!

Are you saying that Management wants to pay you B1900 wages? You will get paid in accordance with other Dash8 operator. That's what I'm talking about.

My understanding is the new pay rates that management is offering puts them near Lakes wages on the 1900. Perhaps a C5'er can chirp in.

The bottom line is this...Do people flying for crappy pay lower the standards in the industry? Yes. Are people going to stop taking low paying jobs? people are naive if they think so. Better QOL is not going to be a result of a boycott by pilots against low paying companies. There will always be someone who takes the job. In fact there will always be plenty of willing people to take the job. This is where my comment on this being an abstract ideal. If I don't take a low paying job because of my ideals all I am doing is making a statement no one gives a damn about. Screaming in the wind...if I pull my resume out of a pile of hundreds to make a point it's just me screaming in the wind...no one can here and no one wants to. All I did was deny me and my family an opportunity for improvement.

Everyone talks crap about Lakes, but it is what it is. Stating the same thing a million times in a million different ways is irreverent. Everyone complains about the pay, but remember the whole issue everyone here is pitching about regional pay? "That kind of pay is acceptable for the fabled 'rapid upgrade', but if you may be stuck there your whole career, pay needs to go up". Well from what I know from people who fly there, ZK still has that fabled rapid upgrade. They get in, get their time, get out, and go on to bigger and better things all before most people at other regionals have even made it to the left seat. You sacrifice QOL and pay for that oppertunity. If it doesn't work for you, and you have a family to feed, that's fine, go elsewhere. But please don't bash the people who that think it would be an adventure to spend 3 or 4 years flying by the seat of their pants thru the wild wild west in all kinds of weather. I'd love to fly at a place like Lakes for a while, either that or a 135 opperator. I'd imagine I'd have some crazy stick and rudder skills by the end of my time there. YMMV.

haha. That is an equal opportunity of bashing. I don't know you as I'm sure you don't me, but I'll take you for your word.

Look, I will first apologize for misspelling "hearsay" in my first post. I know I am new to posting but I have been on here keeping up to date with information. Last time I checked this webiste is for pilots helping other pilots get to that next level in their career. Lakes is not for everyone, it takes the right kind of person in the right situation. But, I will not stand by and let people bash the pilot group or people intersted in flying for Lakes because they want to better their career. Low paying airlines have been here since the dawn of aviation, fact is there is always going to be a pilot williing to work for bare bones to reach the next level. That is never going to change. Pilots are not around long enough here at Lakes to really force any change. However, with little to no movement the last two years people have stepped up to improve life at Lakes. As with many other regionals, we are in negotiaions. But my guess is management is using the same stalling tactics at Lakes as other places. Typically all the people working in the unions and fighting for better pay/QOL at regionals are senior and waiting to move on to a major airline. Once things start to open up they will move on and everything they have been working towards will most likely go with them (hence the stalling tactics) unless people step up uand fill their place. So it is up to us to make sure that this does not happen. So, yes when I look at myself in the mirror in 10 years I am going to be able to say that I made a difference and I will be pleased with the choice I made by going to Lakes. Whether it was fighting for a new contract or helping other young naive pilots such as myself get to the next step in their career, I will have made some difference. By telling people to not go to a certain airline for any reason is not going to help because there is always someone willing to fill their spot. What we should be saying is go to that airline and make a difference, pick up where others leave off. Change is not going to happen over night, but if we continue to work together and educate everyone then we can slowly start to make the changes we want and make this a better industry not just for ourselves but future pilots. Just my two cents, which is hard to come by since I work at Lakes.

current 1 year upgrade means you'll be making first year captain pay during your second year there which is more than a third year FO makes at Eagle. You get the 1000 turbine PIC after about 3-4 years with the company and move onto to greater things. For some people its sit at a low paying instructing job, or go to lakes make more than you are now while building multi time and multi turbine pic.

Yes. When you hit 1000+ TPIC you automatically get a decoder ring that guarantees you a job at a Major. Trust me.

I look at GL and see an opportunity for me to able to fly a ton, build multi PIC, and still make around the same as I am now. I have no flying or college debt, so for me it would make sense that I want to go there.
Don't forget, you have to make Capt. first to build that precious TPIC. But in the mean time you're going to be living like an animal. Scrounging for food that is edible and affordable and your life is going to suck. Is it worth it? What if worst comes to worst and the economy tanks but you're lucky to keep your job? Are you willing to work there for the foreseeable future?

I can't believe I'm saying this but apply to Colgan before Lakes. Come on, think about it.

Yep I know a guy who did just that...Went to lakes put up with the low pay and QOL and did in fact make capt in a yr got his 1000 TPIC and got out. He did say he got very good at pumping down the gear in the 1900. He was glad to get out.

FYI: The pilots are currently in negotiations with the company over a new contract, so why don't we all hold off on the bashing until we see what comes out next. Would it be so bad if someone went to Great Lakes and said "I'm going to make a difference here and try to change this" or is it better to just mock the current operations online and try to deter people from applying.

Every airline is in negotiations for a new contract.

Just dropped an app yesterday morning! And received a rejection letter by the afternoon :D Wondering if I had too much time or too little - 1560T 138M?

I doubt you had too much time. Maybe not enough recent experience or multi? It could be some other qualification, hard to say.

I applied yesterday. Looking forward to hearing back from them. I know the pay and life style isn't great or even good but I've seen worse... I am a little short on MEL time but maybe they will overlook that with six years heavy aircraft maintenance experience.
