Rabigh wings flight school

Do you know what the particulars are, Pay, housing, etc?

Just wondering

Bali is really big and this place is really far from where most of the action is (you are to the north of the mountains and to reach the south you have to travel around the entire Island). If you are moving there thinking of making the life of Kuta (the Bali you see on TV) that`s not the place to be. I applied there when I was in Indonesia, but back then they were not able to sponsor a Visa. I know they follow the FAA regs, it`s like a 141 school.

If you have a loan or lots of bills to pay in the US forget about it, pilot pay in Indonesia can be pretty low, even less then 1000 $ a month, but I`m sure that a place like that offers accommodation and food.

You guys forgot to mention that you will be looked down upon as a Westerner in Saudi Arabia. That would make me worry if anything were to go wrong in the friendly skies, it could be made out to be your fault even if it wasn't.

Also, women receive lashings for being raped, Saudi Arabia hosts one of the most radical wings of Al Qaeda, compounds where the westerners live have been bombed and there cars have been rigged with explosives. Oh yea, if you get caught drinking alcohol then I'm pretty sure it is punishable by death. Other than that, sounds like a great place....

So Mattio, you've lived in Saudi Arabia before?

And making general statements about the living and security conditions in Saudi Arabia make you an expert.

Everyone here is looked down upon if you are not a Saudi, but only by the Saudi's that have attitudes. The students that I have are respectful, helpful, and generally very thankful to us in person. I cannot speak to what they say in arabic, but judging by the outward appearances are very friendly.

If you truly screw up in the skies then they will not be friendly skies anymore. Just do your job correctly and you shouldn't have any problems.

Don't go out into town and you won't get caught with alchohol and besides, half the country drinks anyways. There is a huge black market here for imported liquor but I still wouldn't go near that anyway. I will agree there is too much risk involved in that endeavor, so it is all in a choice.

If you could come with some hard facts on life here or point someone who has lived here then I would ask you to have them post their comments. I fail to see what experience you could garner from doing "a lot of research" for a potential job here.

I welcome you to come stay here with me for two weeks and meet our students and other pilots who work here. Not just the instructors but 135, 91, Netjets, and other heavy operators in the country.

I open my door to you. Let me know.

I dunno, I read a lot of stuff online from people that lived there and the pros and cons seemed pretty consistent. I also read an article about a Filipino that was raped and impregnated by a coworker and she wasn't allowed to leave the country and is imprisoned and received lashings for being raped.... I don't know the current details on the case but I heard enough about that one. Also, a story about a 13 year old girl that received lashings for bringing her camera phone to school. There is also a radical islamic wing in the country that has made clear its' intentions to harm people and religious leaders have issued fatwah's to kill Westerners. Back in 2004, a housing compound that housed westerners and military personnel helping the country with oil development was bombed.... I'm not saying that if you go there, you're GOING to be hurt, but I'm saying there's more important things in life than money and putting yourself in the situation just for money is something you should put a lot of thought into. The US government warns of these issues with living in the country as well. I've also heard that single women that live without family have to live in separate compounds and that you're not allowed to mingle with these women without a chaperone..... Please correct me if I'm wrong about all of these.

It's been a lot of years since I spent much time in Saudi, but at that time while most of those things were literally correct, the actual odds of those things happening were small enough in my mind to make them of negligible impact on my life.

It is just like the chances of getting mugged/robbed in the United States. If you learn the ropes on where not to go and what not to do, the odds of getting mugged are greatly reduced. Same thing on the 'odd' rules in places like Saudi.

If it scares you, don't go. Other people's risk assessment might be more reasoned than yours, and they seem to be relatively safe, so why denigrate their choices?

I never denigrated their choices on the basis of risk. I'm just stating what I have read. I would denigrate their choices on the basis of social responsibility, however. The human rights in Saudi Arabia aren't far ahead of those of medieval times. The human rights in the country are slowly evolving, however, I wouldn't want to contribute in any way to the economy of a country that treats its people that way. Wealthy people tend to help maintain the status quo and I would want no part in helping to keep them wealthy.

This is also part of the reason why reducing our dependance on foreign oil is one of the, if not the most, important issue right now. The govt's of the countries that we get oil from are like misbehaved children to varying degrees. They know how to function in some respects but they have warped views. Actually, they're more like misbehaved child stars whom the parents rely on economically. What do you do about misbehaved children? You ignore them and don't reward them until they change their behavior. We can't do that right now because we depend on them and that has to change.

The mistaken assumption that you are making is that we have a right and obligation to decide what is right for people in another country.
