FLIPY FLAPS!
Hey,

The fiancee is having a hard time finding work around here, and what with Oregon's 10% unemployment, we'll be closing in on empty accounts around Jan or Feb. Anybody got any leads in Central Oregon? She's open to commuting, I can't really work a normal job with my flying sched.

Aren't you already in EUG? I'd be surprised if Bend or any of the rest of eastern OR had any better employment options.

What line of work is she in?

:yeahthat:

I used to work/live in Bend, OR. I can ask around if you let me know what she's looking for.

She used to be a Massage Therapist in AK, but down here, she's willing to do pretty much anything. If she wants to work in Massage here she's gonna have to completely redo her certification I guess. Even minimum wage would be nice right now. I appreciate it. We've been surfing craigslist like an addict since we got here, and she's filled out at least 40apps with no luck.

Grew up in Bend and my friends/family still live there. From what I hear I think it's safe to say Bend is one of the most depressed job markets in the country. However, it seems like most of my friends are able to find some sort of work...they just had to work extremely hard to find it. I'm sure she'll find something. I'll keep my eyes open for something as well!

Welcome to me and my girlfriend's world. She's a PTA in Seattle and to leave there she has to redo her certification.

The massage license in Oregon requires passing a very strict practical exam, but if she passes that I know Footloose on 8th st in downtown is hiring.

That's a good place too....went there when I was home on leave last Christmas

Yeah, we're looking into that. Right now though, we're broke. I dunno if we can afford the certification costs if she doesn't pass the first time, and I know its a tough test. Regardless, that's what were gonna try for. She's really good at it and has about 3 years of experience, but yeah, she's open to anything right now. She's tutoring for free at LCC in hopes they'll give her a job later. This economy sucks.

Eugene or central Oregon?

i have nothing positive to contribute other than my empathy. i was unemployed in Bend last spring and it was really depressing. It is one of the worst places to be right now if you are looking for a job. I had to leave town and I found a job in the valley. If I knew anything about massage therapy I could help ya, but I couldn't say. I could tell you where the unemployment office is...

And NickH, what the heck were you doing in footloose??
