Navzilla for droid

Cold Ass Honky
I know a few people like myself have been looking for an android moving map, and after doing a little bit of searching, i found navzilla. It isnt available on the market, you have to register at navzilla.com

Its still in beta, and doesnt overlay on a sectional, but it seems like the best option out there. Havent had a chance to try it out in the cockpit, but ill let yall know how well it works when i get the chance.

Having mentioned it, I should also mentioned the downside. At least so far, there's no way to download the charts en masse which means leaving 3G connected if you use it in flight. But it does work.

I'm in the process of doing similar discoveries myself.
You *can* download maps even w/o using 3G. Search for MOBAC http://mobac.dnsalias.org/
You can also use OruxMaps which caches the tiles you look at over 3G, or can also use downloaded maps from MOBAC.
I'd be curious if you know any application which has georeferenced approach plates. I've seen WingX but haven't tried it yet, it's $100 and doesn't have full functionality for Android. I hear ForeFlight is great for an iPad, so I hope it will come to Android too.

havent tried rmaps, but the nice thing about navzilla is it downloads everything and stores it. After tinkering around with it, you can enable terrain shading as the back ground, which makes it look exactly like a sectional. It also uploads tfrs, but i wouldnt depend on it.

I cant get Navzilla to update. It keeps saying "Navzilla registration required" even though I am registered.

Just downloaded Rmaps and that seems pretty neat.

If you are having issues with logging in, delete the app, then point your android browser to www.navzilla.com. on the left there is a link for installation help, the first step of changing your password is most important. Then download the app again, and open/ log in. Should fix your issues.

I would only dl one map update at a time... my droid x had issues trying to pull them all at once

I had that issue and asked. The fix (remember this is beta) is to go to the Navzilla site and reset your password there - even to the same password. The update will work next time on the droid. No need to reinstall the app.
