Completed the CFI practical yesterday

Oral - scenario based. Military pilot gets CSEL without any civilian flying. I had a questionnaire prepared as well as a plan for training the pilot to ensure they had the required knowledge and proficiency to operate safely. Covered the Regs with emphasis on Part 61 in particular flight review, passenger carrying currency etc and how it applied to the scenario. The oral was guided discussion method and we covered tech subject areas, special emphasis areas,FOI and PTS that way (I referenced the FOI and special emphasis areas throughout the practical test when I thought it was appropriate).

Presented a lesson on systems and then power off 180. Used a combination of whiteboard and diagrams (for systems). He had one question I was a little unsure about, told him so, and we looked it up in the PHAK and discussed the topic.

Preflight briefing and inspection was about 30 minutes. Nothing unusual.

Flight: I was instructor demonstrating for the following portions: Engine start through take off and flight to practice area. Chandelles, Power off Stall, trim tab stall, sim engine out, 8s on pylons, approach and landing with a go around, power off 180 to a full stop.
My 8s on pylon were not fantastic and I told him how I cold have done it better and the mistakes I made.

Inspector played the roll of student for basic instrument maneuvers, soft field take off and landing, and naviagation back to the home airport, taxi and shut down.

Debrief was about 30 minutes. I told him afterwards there were a couple of times I felt duing the flight I should have used questions vs giving direction when he was acting as student. He agreed, noted that it was a common mistake with new CFIs. He told me I did a good job, enjoy instructing and be safe!!

Overall, the test went smooth. Approx 8 AM to 4 PM. Oral about 3.5 hrs, 45 minute lunch break, 1.7 hrs on the hobbs for the flight. The inspector was a very genuine guy and I felt at ease throughout. Now to get a job!!
