This will filter up into international news eventually. Its an original story reborn. I personally hope he makes it out okay.

I bet this won't be the last we see of this guy. I wish him godspeed.

(Although the tea-party's gonna start saying he's got terrorist aspirations.:crazy:)

I'm suprised you didn't say "It should have been a taildragger!"

The a big issue with his design that I see. It looks like he has a castering nose wheel of sorts and it's not in the greatest shape. I admire his efforts though.
 
If he has internet access, he could have a million armchair quarterbacks! :) (some of whom may provide actual, practical advice)

Actually I'm glad it's not a taildragger. If it were, whenever this guy comes to grief it would then be pinned on the conventional gear...not the prop with knots in it, not the anti-dihedral, not the "lumpy" airfoil...but the conventional gear.

That is admirable, I just hope he doesn't kill anyone in trying to get it off the ground.

This misses the point. The guy wanted to create his own flying machine, not simply buy something and fly. There is a direct lineage of spirit between Orville and Wilbur, Walter Beech, Clyde Cessna, and every homebuilder working on whatever their project is today.

So, he goes and gathers whatever materials he can, cobbles together this contraption, and wants to fly. I'm actually kind of in awe of this guy. If I had bigger money I'd track him down, get him to the states and send him to A&P school and flying lessons.

No doubt! Bring this man to the states and give him a set of real tools to work with. Motivation is a resource that's not easy to find and this guy has it in spades.

Nah, it'd be because he was messing with the flaps on takeoff.

It's a pity he's going to die if that craft gets up any real speed in the first takeoff run.
