Most people that do the test prep walk out with a score in the 90's. seems to work pretty well.

I proctored hundreds in the few years I was an instructor. You come at 0800, study a question bank they have narrowed down from 1600 to 500 or so. At 1800 your head is mush and you don't feel right. You complain to the instructor you are not ready because your brain is mush (me). The instructor tells you everyone does that and to take the test. You get a 95. lol. I only ever saw one guy fail, and it was a Chinese guy who A: Spoke little to no English and B: goofed off all day instead of studying, despite our best efforts to keep him on task.

I did it. I was the only one doing the "course" that day, so I started at 0800, lunch around 1230, came back around 1330, told the instuctor I was ready for the test about 1430. It took me less than 30 minutes to take the actual test and I got a 96.
And you can pretty much say I had not looked at the material at all before going. I bought the huge Gleim book and carried it around for a while, but it was useless. For me it was worth the money to just not have to stress about it.

$75 + the now $150 Test Fee = $225. Not an incredible savings anymore. The FAA imposed a large fee on testing last year.

Yes Lasergrade too. Like I said, every cent of the increase is coming from the FAA.

Studying a little before you go will make your brain less mushy by the end of the day is all, but not really required. You seem like you are pinging a little so I would say a little pre-study may relax you.

I used sheppardair and was really happy with it. I was an instructor at ATP for two years and I can safely say that the software is just as good as ATP's. Here's my take on it:
#1) With sheppardair you can study on your home computer or laptop at your own pace over one day or an entire month.
#2) It costs less $225 total vs $295 total. $70 savings, that's a dinner out or my power bill for the month. I don't know anyone who doesn't want to save $$ these days.
#3) You can decide when you'd like to take the test and at what location. With ATP, you generally must take the test on the same day at that location.
#4) Sheppardair guarantees your score. Not that you just pass, but that you get a 90% or better. If you score an 88%, you simply fax them the score report and they refund your money.
I called sheppardair at 10pm on a weeknight and the customer service representative took the time to walk me through the entire software download process. They even emailed me a "cheat sheet" of numerical answers to memorize. I studied for 3-4 hours at a time over 4 days. It took me longer to register and pay at Embry-Riddle's testing center than it took for me to take the test and score a 94%.

In some cases ATP is cheaper than sheppard air and then going to take the test at a random lasergrade, they tend to have the $199 deals every so often.

Indian students are not that rich. Most of the Indian students I met came from low income family. These Indian students are on a heavy loan when they come here for flight training.

I took mine at ATP 10Hrs of study and a 91% on the test. Took 17min to complete.

Did the ATP cram session back in 2003 before I went to the airlines. If I remember it was about 250.00 and I studied before hand and then showed up and studied their material from 8:00 am until 5:00 PM when I took the test. Got a 90%.
Left the airlines a few years ago and my ATP written expired. I did the Sheppard Air program. Studied for about 5 hours, took the test (about 12 minutes) and scored better than the first time. Perhaps it's because I am familiar with the material after flying part 121 for 5 years. Who knows? I think the Sheppard Air program was a much better cost and user friendly system than All ATP. No previous study actually did it 2 days before my airline interview. The program works well. Others do to but then you have to go through the hassle of finding a test center and arranging a time and date. If you want to knock it out and PASS then ATP is the way to go.
I had bought the Gleim at home study course, but only got only 1/3rd of the way into it before I went down to ATP and did their one day course.
Just as the others I started at 8am and took the test around 530pm.
Took maybe 40 minutes on the test and got an 89%!
After that many hours of studying you know instantly what the answer is without even reading the question just based on the three available answers.
Personally I think FAA tests are retarded. It is set up so you don't really learn anything, but rather just learn for the test. Whatever.
