"Line up and Wait" today

I seem to have this thing for German products. My Volkswagen, my HK pistol and of course...German porn.

And for God's sake before anyone gets offended, I'm just kidding.

If you've been outside of North america at all, you won't even notice a change. It was supposed to clear up waiting vs holding. Holding is flying around in the general shape of an oval...

Get ready for more of this.....back taxi is giving way to "back track". Standby is giving way to "I'll call you back"

I agree with earlier post; "Small fries"

Thank God you're kidding about the Volkswagen. That would only make sense if you were a 20 year old sorority girl.

I thought it was to differentiate holding short of a runway vs holding in position.

I was taking off out of DFW yesterday and tower told "American" to "line up and wait......." Two second later he told me to "taxi into position and hold........":D

The key was that it was yesterday. Seems the junior tower kids here at DFW have a little growing to do. Weekend shifts seem to get the most of them.

Personally I think the whole 'line up and wait thing' is a direct result of male pilots telling female controllers they're going to 'pull out and hold it.'

Seems like the perfect time for an ATC clip I can't find. Has anyone else heard that JFK clip between Tower and Air France(IIRC) that went something like this:

Tower: AF123 position and hold 31L
AF123: Line up and wait 31L, AF123
Tower: AF123 position and hold 31L
AF123: Ok, line up and wait 31L, AF123
Tower: No...position and hold 31L
AF123: Line up and wait 31L!
Tower: AF123, no. Position and Hold 31L.

Pretty much expected to hear a Bald Ealge screech on the frequency.

Wilmington, NC ATIS:

"...lineup and wait phraseology is now in effect nationwide. Except for this airport."

I'm planning on asking clearance in the a.m. what the deal is.
