What is everyone wearing?

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and will be a first time job fair attendee in Vegas if I'm able to make it. Since I've never been to one of these events before, I do not know what to expect.

I was just wondering what everyone is planning on wearing. I posted this same question on the "other forum" and everyone said wear a suit despite being advertised as business casual. Friends that I talked to that have been to these before said the same thing. Doug responded there and said "The career fair is business casual. The recruiters already understand (and like) the idea, but wear whatever makes you feel comfortable but I'd suggest looking sharp." I've done some research on this forum as well and Kristie posted "Business casual is a nice pair of pants with a nice button down or polo shirt...something appropriate yet something you're comfortable in (like a second skin)..... I want to see a sea of calm, classily dressed, friendly people walking around the room....not a sea of nervous, double breasted blue coat, red tie people walking around in a frenzy afraid to step forward and just say hi."

I don't want to look bad if I'm the only one out of a thousand in a nice pair of pants and a nice striped shirt while everyone else is in a suit. Will Delta think I don't want to fit in and rip my resume to shreds if I don't have on my navy blue suit and red tie? Will other companies think that I'm unprofessional? Or will I be viewed as the laid back pilot that everyone will remember for not wearing a suit and being an "automaton" as Doug so described it in the other forum.

So my question is despite being advertised as business casual, is everyone still going to end up wearing a suit? Thanks for the advice.

I will NOT be wearing a suit. The dress code is business casual and that's exactly what I'm gonna do....Nice pants and a button-down shirt.

Business casual means buisness casual. I'll probably wear nice slacks with a nice polo. Save the suit/tie for formal.

Save the suit/tie for formal.

Actually, informal means a suit and tie. Formal means a tuxedo or mess dress.

Outside of the military, government, and private clubs - these terms are often misunderstood.

Casual typically means a collared shirt, long trousers, no blue jeans, jacket optional.

We hold an ENTIRELY different type of gig here....We want the *person* to stand out, not the clothing...that's why we recommend business casual.

Everyone and their mother can wear a suit to a gathering and what does it prove that business casual can't?

Last place i want to be is in a room with a bunch of suits and *nervous* faces...that would only make ME nervous as well.

so please...listen to your event planners (me and Doug)....please don't wear a suit and tie....come business casual! We want you to be comfortable so you can get the job through networking and personality alone. :)

nice, crisply ironed shirt, nice pair of slacks, snappy appearance (shave, come/brush hair, earrings out, presentable) and polished shoes.

Thanks for your question! :)

Uniform, complete with the hat.
comeon...this doesn't help us or maybe i should say ME!!!!

do you have any idea how many emails and phone calls we're getting on a daily basis about this and what time everything is..what's the cost etc?

please.. help us out a little mmmkay?! I need help with making sure people get the right information....*yes, i'm a bit frustrated on this*

Sorry, I meant it in jest and hoped it'd be taken as such!

I won't be wearing a uniform, and I don't even own a hat. Heck, I'm not even attending. Carry on, everyone! :)

I'm sorry...i know it was probably meant as a joke, just like Corbin's "naked" response

everything just hit the shan at once this morning and my blood pressure's been too high lately :p

but honestly, want to know how many uniforms i saw at the last FltOps fair? TOO many!!

I don't know about flight ops, but a lot of the OBAP folks are usually in their uni's because they may just be dropping that day and may be leaving later in the afternoon. It's expected to wear the uni atleast one day of the event at their conference.

Since this event is different, it's probably a good idea to clarify it. Especially if there are going to be drinks there!

Business casual.

Would I wear a suit? Probably not. The recruiters know it's going to be business casual so already you've proven you can't follow instructions or read! :)

But look sharp. I'm naturally a sloppy dresser. I live in Arizona, out in the dirt, don't shave for weeks at a time when I'm at home and I generally only get my hair cut these days when my hat (which I wear) stops fitting because I've been so busy. There's nothing wrong with walking in to Men's Warehouse and saying "I need an affordable 'business casual' outfit" I did that a few months ago when I had to go plug the event in Las Vegas at a career fair earlier this year. There's nothing wrong with that at all -- 15 minutes and they can get you all hooked up.

Uniforms are acceptable, in my eyes, because you might be popping in, hitting the job fair, and popping out, but if you wear a uniform, OWN IT and don't come walking in like you're just off a reduced-rest layover in Des Moines and you were out with Adjin all night. The danger with not wearing a uniform well is that they're going to picture the way you'll represent the company when you're wearing theirs. My employer has a military-esque philosophy on the uniform so if you want up to them and you look like you've just woken up from a three hour nap in the Airbus jumpseat, it may reflect negatively. Make sure your pants fit, your epaulets are bright and the correct color, take the chowder off your tie and look like a magazine advertisement.

If you're going to wear a uniform, LOOK SHARP, straight out of the FOM, or do not wear it.

Just try your hardest to put your best foot forward. All of the recruiters coming to the career fair are people I've been working with for months, good folks, just like you and I. They're not going to look down on you, or turn their noses up at you. Just do your best to be honest, be yourself and you will succeed.

Khaki shorts, a black button up shirt, and casual shoes. Pretty comfortable in 80 degree weather today!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess I'll be going business casual.

Would this outfit be appropriate? :laff:
