One Miiiiillion Pounds

So who's the winner right now. The A-380 or the 748?

Edit: Never mind. The 380 takes aloft 300,000 more pounds. Bummer.

I always thought the 800 was gonna have a stretched second deck too, not just a streched fusalage and bigger engines. Looks like its a new wing too!

With only 7,000 feet of a 15,000-foot runway remaining, it's obvious the margin of error is small," says Capt. Stemer.

It's worse than that. 1.3 million is the DESIGN takeoff weight. They loaded the 74-8 up over it's max design weight for the test (not by a lot over, the design is 975k).

if it ain't a Boeing than i ain't going.......

Nice marketing slogan from Boeing, but I find it incredible that there are pilots that do not look beyond something as superficial as, what is essentially, skin color, to the deeper issues in the design.

Does it matter? How much demand is there to haul that kind of weight?

The same as there is to haul what the 74-8 can, but burning less gas to do so. Obviously, both Boeing and Airbus marketing departments believe the demand is there.

As a frequent flyer with over 3.3 million miles I always tried to rescheduled when I was booked on an Airbus. The few times I rode an Airbus were not pleasant. Blame the seating on the airline but the noise level was awful.

Nice!

Airbus should send 'em a miniature muffin basket or a kitchen scale in congratulations. :)

(And, hopefully, Boeing will send back some flame or lightning-bolt stickers to put on the side of the plane to make it faster.)

Who's flying the 380 Freighter? Have any been delivered?

I don't know. I don't see Boeing making new jumbo jet designs. Modifying a 40 year old design isn't new territory.

Yes, they already had a super jumbo, which, incidentally, virtually EVERYONE said there would be no market for at the time...

From Wiki: "Although Airbus originally accepted orders for the freighter version, production has been suspended until the A380 production lines have settled. No firm date has been offered for delivery of the first freighter"
Other articles I've read seem to indicate that the Freighter version is dead for now. Could be one of the reasons Boeing went with the -8F first.
