I drank a few beers (on a layover of course) with a captain who was giving us a line check who knew one of our members when he was a kid in diapers in Afghanistan back in the 70's.

No. A JC-er who instructed near me in East Texas a while ago, where I met him at a little podunk fly-in, is in class with a regional airline on the East Coast. He is in class with a guy who was on NIFA with me one year in college, and met one of this airline's mx personnel...who was also on NIFA with me (all 4 years) and a very good friend of mine. This mech's husband is a pilot for said airline, and probably known to many of the other JC-ers who work for said airline.
Meanwhile, a new mech in our shop comes from the same stomping grounds where I wrenched for 7 months, and knows many of the same airplanes and people.
