Options In Long Beach

Rainbow Air: "closed for reorganization"

Long Beach Flying Club- going to tour them this afternoon

California Flight Center: glass cockpit airplanes, but (understandably) high rates.

Long Beach Flight School/Sunset Flying- Seem to be more oriented for sightseeing type flights.

ATP: I'm familiar with them, I am assuming they are still there.

Am I missing any other flight school options for LGB? I'm looking for a place to familiarize myself with the area and eventually do some CFII/MEI training.

I've flown at Sunset Flying ever since I got my license. However, of late it hasn't been nearly as good. They used to have a wonderful 172R with a KLN89B and the works, but they sold it. The aircraft they have now are nothing special, and it's $20 a month membership. If you're going for your MEI, they don't have any multi engines. Owner is cool though, and instructor Brandon Crowd is a solid dude.

LBFC has pretty much the cheapest planes on the field. I've flown over there once in a 152, and was satisfied. Again, dirt cheap.

Couple places that you might want to look into:

Aces High Aviation: To my knowledge, Codyjp (JC member) started up this FBO with a few guys, one being my private instructor Dave Manoukian. I've flown with both Cody and of course Dave and they are awesome. They also have cheap planes...$80/wet for a 152 and a REALLY nice (AC, leather interior, 3-axis autopilot) Piper Archer for $130.

Aero Aviation: I did my primary instruction here. Decent place. The planes are affordable but can be a bit questionable at times. They have a cheap Seminole if I remember.

Hope I was of some help, and good luck! Feel free to ask any questions. :)

If Aces High is an Iron Maiden reference, they deserve a chance just for that. Though I didn't see their office when I was in that area. I'll look again.

I'll also give Aero Aviation a go. Thanks for the help!

Hi there, sorry to have missed this. As Josh mentioned were the newest FBO on the field but by no means are we new to aviation! We are actually located within the airport property so when your ready to come by give us a buzz and we will show you the place. Were actually within the Rainbow Air complex, we just don't have a public street entrance even though our pilots have 24/7 access. We will be hosting an open house on September 18th so if nothing else, come by for that!

We've got a LOT of very talented freelance instructors to work with who have average flight times somewhere around 4000 hours. Our planes are all new (except for our 152 or course) and very well maintained. We keep things simple in order to keep the costs down for our customers. We'd love to show you around, and welcome to LGB! Our website is www.aceshighaviation.com

Likewise! Thanks for taking the time to show me around. Looking forward to flying with you next week, and more after that at AHA.

(and now, I can say I've actually met a person thru JC)

I haven't met many myself, but the few I that I've met have all been top quality people.

I've had great experiences myself with scuba forums as well. Overall, online communities are very effective for networking and growing a base of people to surround yourself with!

CPC has got some nice people in there...but their gimmick is fresh planes every two years.

Havent flown with them in a while, so Im not sure that plan took a hit. Anyone know if theyre still at HHR?
