flight express??

I got offered to come to the Oct 4th interview/new hire class today.

I won't be there though since I am committing to at least one year at TransPac Aviation Academy as a CFI. I start on the 27th at TransPac and already secured housing and all in Phoenix.

Sounds like a great position. They just got to me a couple weeks too late.

Best of success to anyone who goes on Oct 4th.

Just got an email from Adam for Oct 4 class as well as some info from Austin. I will be driving up from South FL, sad to read that about the baron runs....was kind of pinning my hopes on building some multi time with fx down the road.....Look forward to meeting the rest of you

Just got an email for the Oct. 4 class. Anybody else? I saw on Austin Collins site a while ago, there was a lot of information on 135 flying, etc. but I looked pretty recently and it was gone. Just had his "Day in the life" stuff on there. How else can I possibly prepare if/when I go done for training?

Received one as well. Still debating it. I have another (local) opportunity on the horizon for more money. I was told not to go missing. Man, doors never open one at a time! Might take the next train sometime, company won't be going anywhere.

You will laugh, you will cry. If you're doing it right, you will almost die at least once. But you will earn the right to look down on all jet nancies (including me...at least until you become one of the...I mean us.)

any idea what bases they are hiring into?

I know ADS is currently over staffed. Can't comment on any others because I don't keep up with them. It will change day by day though. There is always someone putting in their notice to leave and/or a new run starting.

Just be prepared to go wherever they need ya.

:yeahthat:

'Nother question. What do they typically start you out at? They referenced $23K-50K. 50K i'm assuming after 10+yrs. And do ya pre-plan to shack up with some other buds to afford rent. Not being able to pick your spots, and having to be willing to move and shuttle around geographically all while making 23K, it's hard to imagine one to be financially secure with $1000+ in bills/loans/rent payments, no matter where you live. Coming from the northeast, 23K isn't gonna do it.

If you get a min pay run you will have plenty of time for another job if you wish. Most but im sure not all min pay runs consist of just flying somewhere and flying back an hour or so later. So like 4 hours of on duty time. I think 7.5 hours is the cutoff but it was rare you really saw one right at 7.5 hours. They were either really long or really short.

In the one full calendar year I was there I made 39500 I was happy I stayed just under 2 years total. It was fun, I learned so much and met a lot of great pilots and mechanics. I came because another job I had lined up out of college fell through and honestly after the time and experience I gained from FLX I'm so glad it did.

I did 38k in my first nine months. You are paid by the duty day so 12/hourX14 hour duty dayX 5 days a week+1000 dollar bonus.

Thanks for the replies! I have a corporate CP telling me not to go anywhere, the company purchased a brand new c90gtx and is looking to put me on part time @ 300/day. So i'm just waiting for the a/c's arrival, all while instructing. I got my ATP written and looking to knock out the ATP check ride sometime this month, I have 35hrs left and will probably be finishing those up dual given in an LSA. I've never had a job making less than what the bills require even instructing. Just thought i'd ask and get some feedback, thanks guys.

Hey everyone, I just received an email for the Oct 4 class as well. I guess I will see everyone there. Has anyone received any training material yet? All I can find is the recurrent training on the website.

Word I got was that training material is not available on line anymore and that all training material would be provided if invited to participate in the ground school following the simulator evaluation on Monday.

Wow, that sucks. Having it before hand was nice.

What exactly are they looking for in the sim eval? Basic attitude control, tracking navaids, etc? What all happens on day 1? If somebody is having a tough time, do they try to help the person out to get it right? I would assume most people there are instructors and have the "teaching" mentality for fellow peers. I'm just kind of nervous because when I was instructing, I didn't do a lot of IFR training. Kept current on the sim, but I think that I possibly will be receiving a swift kick in the pants. Mind you that I have been studying my but off with the AIM so far getting back up to speed. Any tips at all will be greatly apreciated. I will definitely be getting in a sim and fly some apchs in an a/c before I get there, just nervous because it's a "real" job finally!

They're looking for basic control of the aircraft, multitasking (this is single pilot), and such as that. I don't know specifically what they're looking for, but if you can keep it right side up, on a heading and altitude, and tune up an approach while you do that, you're probably good.

I struggled because it was literally the first time I'd flown a sim other than MSFS. If you've been doing your currency on a sim, that's probably a benefit for the sim eval.

Any of you guys know the status of the FXE or OPF bases? Crossing my fingers, but still prepared for anything.

I haven't heard anything about those bases, but info flows somewhat slowly as to who is leaving and such. FLX is VERY VERY VERY honest about this point, and I can only reiterate what they say. There is no way to know which bases are going to be open. For my class, it literally changed the morning we were going to bid while we were taking our final exam.

I wouldn't study the books too much. I would focus on getting in a sim and practicing approaches and hold entries until your head is numb.
