Cleared for the approach while holding

So me and a student were holding on a published approach fix (with published hold) prior to conducting a gps approach. We reported ready for the approach and about 1 mile into a 5 mile outbound leg we got our approach clearance.

Question there is do we have to continue outbound the next 4 miles or can we go ahead and turn back inbound upon receiving the clearance?

Legally speaking, you can enter and fly a hold however you want, so long as you stay within the correct side at assigned altitude.

I would turn inbound, but that is just me.

You can turn inbound when they clear you for the approach (legally speaking as well)
