transportation...

haven't been to LAS yet Jeff?

There are TONS of cabs to get you around town. It's i think about $12 one way to the palms from the airport.

There's also a trolley that can take up to an hour to get you to the hotel but i hear it's less expensive....however, i don't know anything about it.

The shuttle only goes down to the Fashion Mall on the strip and back.

You'll enjoy it! you can cab or you can try to see if other attendees are coming in at the same time you are so you can cabpool to save a few $$

there's no reason to get a car at all unless you plan on driving around Las Vegas or going outside of Las Vegas.

heck no to the cabs....catch a shuttle at a fixed price. Cab stuck in traffic equals $$$$, shuttle stuck in traffic still equals same price....Last year it was $6....

I'll probably wind up cabbing it since the rental car counters and the shuttles probably don't run to FedEx. Might go in with someone to rent a car or something. There's a top notch reptile store in the city I wanna check out. We can make it a field trip if anyone else wants to go. :)

We do have car rental discounts! Perhaps you can tell them you're part of the group and they'll pick you up. Doesn't hurt to ask a couple months in advance!

If it helps, I plan on driving up so I can take a few folks with me from place to place. Once the booze starts flowing though....I'll gladly split cab fare

I will be the designate driver since I would like to drive around Vegas if someone want to drink. ;)

I'll be flying into KHND with some friends and jumping on the shuttle that leaves for the strip either 10am, 1pm, or 4pm. It's complimentary but I'll usually tip the person driving.

Good thread. I got my room at the Palms so I can do the events, get tipsy, faceplant in my room.....no driving fo me.

There are about 3 different shuttle companies, that range from $5.50-$7.50 one way. I now Showtime is one of them, Coach USA might be one, and I have no idea what the other company is called. Cab should be about 15-20 bucks. If you find a second person going to the Palms (or wherever you are staying) I would recommend cabbing it. It would be roughly the same price and about 4 times faster. The shuttle vans sit at the airport til it fills up. It could be 5 minutes or 30!! then your hotel might be the 4th stop! so like Kristie said, it might take an hour or more from bag. claim to your hotel front door.

adreamer, let me know if you got any more Q's about vegas. I'ld be happy to answer any of them for you.

I'm not adreamer, but I have a question. Are you going to be at NJC this year? :)

I am gonna try. I really want to, i have to see what my Oct. schedule looks like. Unfortunately it doesn't come out til the 21st. And if I get a build up line, it wont be out til the 23-24th.

You going?

I see.. I'm not sure myself. I booked a room just in case, but I'm not sure what I'll be doing in October. Hopefully I'll know within the next couple of weeks.

Shuttles are cheap, but take FOREVER! Both times I've taken shuttles to the strip, I've waited over an hour for them to depart. Not fun. Especially in the summer time.

Cabs are usually pretty cheap. Last month I took a cab from LAS to the MGM and it cost $8. And it was instant. 2 hours later, JordanD took a cab from LAS to the MGM and spent about $30 because of "traffic". You won't always get an honest driver, if it seems he's giving you the run around(its almost a direct route from the strip to the airport), say something.

And if you do take a shuttle, keep in mind they aren't 24/7. I bought a return ticket on the shuttle at last years NJC, but I was flying back to SFO on the first flight of the morning. It was just awesome when I call to inquire about the shuttle and I'm told I'm going to miss my flight because they aren't running yet. Took a cab, $10.

I never took a shuttle TO the airport. I just cab it. and I am sure you can split it with someone from your group who is flying out around the same time.
